Application April 21, 1941, Serial No. 389,683
1 Claim.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in mountings for coal mining augers.
Th principal object of the present invention is to provide a mount which includes a frame in which the auger can be adjusted to various levels of operation.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent to the reader of the following specification.
In the drawings Figure l is a side elevational view of the mounting and auger.
Figure 2 is a section taken substantially on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary top plan View showing the mounting.
Figure 4 is a fragmentary side elevational View showing the thread box.
Figure 5 is a fragmentary side elevational view with a part in section showing the connection between the screw shaft and auger.
Referring to the drawings, wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that numeral 5 denotes a mining room with numeral 6 denoting the wall being mined.
An elongated supporting bar l driven into the wall 6 is employed for supporting the auger and the present invention. The present invention relates particularly to a mounting generally referred to by numeral 8 in which the auger can :2:
be readily adjusted to various levels of operation.
The mounting 8 consists of a U-shaped frame 9 having leg portions a, 1) between which an elongated screw shaft I0 is disposed, this screw shaft having a crank l I and handle I2 at one end and its other end squared as at l3 to fit snugly into a polygonal-shaped socket l4 located at one end of an auger l5.
Numeral l6 denotes a thread box and this consists of hingedly connected sections 0 and d hingedly connected together as at H.
The section 0 has a small recess l8 therein for receiving one of several vertically spaced teat members I9, 20 and 2| located on the inner side of the yoke leg a. The other leg b has a plurality of clamp screws 22, 23 and 24 threadedly disposed therethrough and in opposed relation to correspond teat members I9, 20 and 2|, respectively. Obviously, when the thread box I6 is positioned on one of the teats, the same can be held in that position by screwing in the corresponding clamp screw and firmly setting the same against the thread box. Thus the screw shaft and auger are held at a particular level. A swingable member 25 is provided between the upper ends of the legs a, b and a spindle 25 depends from the lower portion of the yoke 8 to depend through an opening in the free end of the supporting bar I. Thus the yoke is. capable of being swivelled on a substantially horizontal plane while with the thread box it between one of the teats and a clamp screw, the screw shaft and auger are capable of a movement in a vertical plane. 1
While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention "2 as claimed hereinafter.
Having described the claimed as new is:
An auger mount comprising a supporting member, a U-shaped member supported for rotary movement in the supporting member, a 1ongitudinally extending row of spaced teats on the inner edge of one limb of the U-shaped member, the other limb of the U-shaped member having transversely extending threaded holes therein, one opposite each teat, screws passing through the threaded holes, a thread box of elongated form and having a centrally arranged hole therein for selectively receiving any one of the teats, with the screw opposite the selected ones of the teat engaging an opposite point of the thread box to hold the teats in engagement with the hole and a screw shaft passing through the thread box and having an auger attached to one end thereof.
