HAT HOLDER Filed Dec. 4, 1935 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Z 0 ljlzp T L I Inventor 11514490 M. Mao/'6 By g q M Mr Mam Patented Feb. 2, 1937 UNITED STATES PATENT GFFICE 3 Claims.
The present invention relates to a hat holder designed for use as a permanent fixture in a closet or any other like place and adapted to be used in an automobile and the like.
The object of the invention resides in the provision of a hat holder which is simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, adjustable, easy to manipulate, thoroughly efficient and reliable in use and operation, and otherwise well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
With the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will hereinafter be more fully described and claimed.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a holder embodying the features of my invention.
Figure 2 is a side elevation thereof.
Figure 3 is a bottom plan view thereof.
Figure 4 is a perspective view showing one of the slidable members with the arm projecting therefrom.
Figure 5 is a perspective view of another slidable member.
Referring to the drawings in detail it will be seen that the numeral 5 denotes an elongated rod V-shaped in cross sectional formation. In the ends of this rod 5 are fixed the apices of V-shaped brackets 6 the ends of which are provided with outwardly directed apertured ears I which may be fixed to a support by screws or other fastening elements or in the upper ears may be engaged hooks 3 of a hanger structure 9 which would be used for temporary support of the holder in a closet, in an automobile or in any other suitable place or condition. On the rod 5 are slidably mounted members In. These members ID are each of a substantially U-shaped formation comprising cross plates 0. with right angularly extending sides b having therein V-shaped slots or openings 0 for receiving the rod 5 so as to be slidable thereon and a set screw II is threaded through each plate or cross portion a so as to be engaged with the rod 5 for holding the member in different adjusted positions. Projecting at right angles from each plate a is an arm l2. On each arm 12 there is slidably mounted a member M. Each member l4 comprises a cross plate (I with right angularly extending sides 6. These sides a are provided with slots or openings I5 to receive the arm l2.
Each member I4 is provided with a set screw l6 threaded through the portions d thereof for engagement with the arm l2 to hold the members M in different adjusted positions.
Numerals 2!] denote arcuate frames each of which consists of a pair of cross members 9, 9 and end members 71., h. The cross members 9, g are in coextensive spaced parallelism as are necessarily the end members h. Rods 2| extend through the ends e of members 14 and are of V- shaped extensive parallel formation whereby the eye terminals 22 thereof, in each member, at each end thereof, are aligned for receiving the intermediate and central portions of the members g, 9.
From the above detailed description it will be seen that the frame 2|! may be adjusted toward and from each other and may be adjusted toward and away from the rod 5.
It is thought that the construction, operation, utility and advantages of this invention will now be quite apparent to those skilled in this art without a more detailed description thereof.
The present embodiment of the invention has been described in considerable detail merely for the purposes of exemplification since in actual practice it attains the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description.
It will be apparent that changes in the details of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.
What is claimed is:-
1. An apparatus of the class described comprising, in combination, an elongated member, a pair of frames on the elongated member, means for mounting the frames whereby they may be adjusted toward and away from each other and toward and away from the elongated member, said member being of V-shaped cross section, brackets of V-shaped formation having their apices fixed in the ends of the member.
2. An apparatus of the class described comprising, in combination, an elongated member, a pair of frames on the elongated member, means for mounting the frames whereby they may be adjusted toward and away from each other and toward and away from the elongated member, said member being of V-shaped cross section, brackets of V-shaped formation having their apices fixed in the ends of the member, apertured ears projecting outwardly from the terminals of the V-shaped brackets.
3. An apparatus of the class described comprising, in combination, an elongated member, a
pair of frames on the elongated member, means for mounting the frames whereby they may be adjusted toward and away from each other and toward and away from the elongated member, said member being of V-shaped cross section, brackets of V-shaped formation having their apices fixed in the ends of the member, apertured ears projecting outwardly from the terminals of the V-shaped brackets, and. a hanger member having a pair of hook terminals engaged in the ears of one of the brackets.
