SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 230,167, dated July 20, 1880, Application filed Aprill7,1880. (N0 model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, JAMES E. BARD, of Sabula, in the county of Jackson and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in ()iiing-Uans; and I do here by declare that the followingis a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, ret erence being had to the accompanying drawings, and the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification, in which drawings Figure l is a side elevation. Fig. 2 is a vertical section. Fig. 3 is a vertical section with the funnel-shaped cap inverted.
My invention consists of an oiling-can provided with a funnel-shaped cap and a removable spout, the cap beingadapted to be readily inverted, to be used as a tunnel in filling the vessel, as, hereinafter fully described.
A represents an ordinary oilingean. I; is a funnel-slmped cap, made to tit neatly over the top of the can, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, and is provided with a neck, (I, the lower part of which is provided with screw-thremls to screw into the top of the can, and the upper part of the neck is provided with a pin, a, to hold in place the spent. The neck isprovided also with an aperture, as shown at (I, to allow the oil around the projecting end of the neck to run into the can, as shown in Fig. 3.
G represents the spout, provided with a bayonet-joint slot, F, to receive the lug c, for holding the spout on the neck.
When the can is to be filled the spout is removed and the cap I5 is-inverted and the neck 0 inserted in the can, forminga funnel, as shown in Fig. 3. The oil around the projecting end of the neck will run through the aperture I; into the can. When the can is filled the cap and spout are replaced, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, forming a complete oiling-can.
Vhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. An oiling-can provided with an invertible funnel-shaped cap, substantially as and for the purpose described.
2. The oiling-can A, provided with the funnel-shaped invertible cap B, having the neck 0, and the removable spout G, substantially as and for the purpose described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as myown invention, I hereunto set my hand and aflix my name, on this iilst day of March, A. A,
