SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 229,891, dated July 13, 1880.

' the following is a full, clear, and exact descrip- -tion of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which itappertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1. is a vertical sectional view of a furnace and boiler embodying the improvements in this invention. Fig. 2 is alongitudinal sectional view of the same, and Fig. 3 is a view of the removable cast-iron lining.
This invention relates to improvements in furnaces and farmboilers; and it consists of the improvements in the construction of the same, hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings similar letters of reference indicate like parts of the invention.
The furnace consists of the sheet-metal casing A, provided with the cast-iron door B at the front, and the cast-iron bottom 0, having the grate D and ash-pit E. A removable castiron lining, F, east in one piece, is corrugated or ribbed, is open at the front, and flares upthey, in conjunction with the bottom, surround the fire and protect the casin g. The corrugations or ribs in the removable lining strengthen it, audits flaring form serves to direct-the flame against the bottom of the boiler.

In a furnace for farm-boilers, the sheet-metal casing A, having the cast-iron door B and the cast-iron bottom O, in combination with the removable cast-iron ribbed lining F, made in one piece and flared outwardly and upwardly, and the door H, located as described, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
