Description

A. L. CASTLE.
STOVE.
APPLICATION FILED r1111. 10, 1913.
I 1,108,336. Patented Aug.25,191
ALFRED L. CASTLE, or enmcnrnmnors;
STOVE.
License,
Specification of Letters Patent To all whom it may concern Be it known thatI, ALFRED CASTLE, citizen of the United States, residing at Quincy, inthe countyof Adams and State and more particularly heating stoves such as are constructed with a view to burnin soft coal; and 1t eonslsts 1n the peculiar and i advantageous stove hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the claim appended.
In the drawings, accompanying and forming part of this specification: Figure 1 is a vertical section of a stove constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is an elevation of the stove taken at a rightan v by the body,\there being by preference three of the said lugs employed. shaped member 4 is flanged atits lower end The conicalto rest on and be supported by the flange 5 of the fire pot, and at its lower end the said member 4 is formed with an inwardly proj ecting annular portion 7, V-sh aped in cr0sssection, the l0WI"111Cl1l1GCl part of the portion 7 being provided with openings 7. l The upper end ofthe member 4: extends to the wall of the body 1, and there is an annular chamber 8 between the member 4 and the body 1, and a similar chamber 9 between the fire-pot 3 and the body, these chambers [being in free communication with each i other;
At is the body 1 is providedwith an outlet for the products of combustion,
Carried by the body 1 and adj acent the upper portion of the chamber 8 is a draft regulator, and when the damper 10 of said regulator is positioned to admit atmospheric air to said chamber 8, it will bemanifest that the said air will behighly heated and Application filed February 10,1913. Serial Narraasa $0 as to increase the heating 3 efficiency of the fuel, also, that aportion ofthe airednitted as stated to the chamber 8 will pass,
It will further be noted that when the dam per 10 is open and the ash door, hereinafter will ected throughthe openings 7 into the combustion chamber and over the fire UNITED sTArEs PATENT crimes. 1
bran-ea Ang.25,1914.
described,yis closed, all of the air that entersthe fire either at the top of the fire pot a r 3 or at the bottom thereof, will be super heated, and the hotter the stove becomes the more highly heated is the air supplied to;
the fire,- with the result thatthereis complete combustion. Again when the damper;
it) is closed and the ash door is opened, a direct draft throughthe fuel is provided,
and when the damper 10 and the ash door are both closed, the fire will go out. From this it follows that the ash door may be a properly denominated the primary draft? regulator of the stove, and the damper 10 can be properly denominated the secondary draft regulator; also, that the fire can be absolutely and nicely controlled by iegulat ing the extent to which the damper 10 is opened.
In addition to the damper 10, which is preferably of the pivoted type, the draft 1 regulator referred to comprises an aper tured frame 11 that carries the damper 10 and is disposed at the outer side of the body 1, a cast-metal collar 1&3 being disposed at the inner s1de of the body 1, and connections 13, preferably bolts equipped with nuts, joining the frame, 11, the collar 12 and the sheet-iron or sheet'steel of the body 1. By
reason of the sheet iron or steel of the body 1 being interposed between the collar 12 and the frame 11, and the collar being drawn tight by bolts or the like, a perfectly air tight joint between the sheet-iron or steel and the cast-1ron elements is attained for the same purpose as the frame 11 of the draft regulator. This will be manifest by reference to F1g. 1.
so i d as i Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to out, is: I a
T116-hGIGlHClGSClllJEBCl stove comprising a secure by Letters-Patbody, a conical-shaped member supported iio in the body and separated therefronr by an annular space; said memberbeing open .v
at its lower and upper ends and having imperforate side walls, and said space being closed'at its upper end and open at its lower end, a fire pot supported in the body below said member and open atits upper and lower ends and having an imperforate side wall; the fire pot being surrounded 'by' an annular space that is open at its lower and upper ends and is in communication with *the first-named annular space, and the conicalshaped member resting on the upper end of the "fire pot and being formed at its lower end with an inwardly-projecting annular portion, V-shaped in cross-section,
topics of this patent may 'be db'ta inedfor the lower inclined part of the said V-shaped portion being provided with openings, an outlet for prod'ucts of combustion leading from the body at a point above the conicalshaped member, a draft regulator connected with the body opposite the upper portion of the first-named annular space, and an ash door connected with the body at a point 'be low the second-named annular space.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses. ALFREDL. CASTLE.
