Oct. 13, 1942. v. L. TETZLAFF RAzqn sTERILIzER Filed May l, 1941 761713Z L TezZaff Patented Oct. 13, 1942 UNITED smrss earner ortica 3'V Claims.
pletely sterilizing the razors while contained in the cabinet.
More particularly, it is an aim of the invention to provide a sterilizing cabinet `or container especially 'adapted for use in barber shops to afford means for effectively sterilizing a razor after each use thereof. Y
Still another aim of the invention is to provide a sterilizer having means for selectively elevating the razors to permit the razors to be readily removed from the cabinet for use.
Still a further aim of the invention is to provide a cabinet in which the razors are held separated from one another and in which they are contained in a closed position so that there will be no danger vof the cutting Vedgeibeing. dulled or nicked when the razor is applied to or removed from the cabinet.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will hereinafter become more fully apparent from the following description of the drawing, which illustrates a preferred embodiment of the invention, and wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view of the sterilizing cabinet, Y
Figure 2 is a transverse vertical sectional view of the same, taken along the plane of the line 2 2 of Figure l,
Figure 3 is a longitudinal vertical sectional view taken substantially along the plane of the line 3 3 of Figure 1, and
Figures 4 and 5 are horizontal sectional views of the cabinet taken substantially along the planes indicated by the lines 4 4 and 5 5, respectively, of Figure 3.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, wherein like reference characters designate like or corresponding parts throughout the diiferent views, I designates the sterilizing cabinet in its entirety and which includes an elongated container II which is open at its top and which is adapted to be lled with a liquid antiseptic to approximately the level indicated by the line I2, in Figures 2 and 3.
A anged cover I3 is adapted to be removably applied to the open upper end I4 of the container II, and as best seen in Figure 1, the cover I 3 is provided with a plurality of oblong openings I5 which are arranged transversely thereof and in longitudinally spaced relationship to one another. A plurality of sleeves I6 are attached to the underside of the cover i3 and extend downwardly into the container il. The sleeves I6 are disposed around the openings I5 and their cross sectional shape, as seen in Figure 4, corresponds to the shapeof the openings I5. The sleeves IS are provided with a plurality of openings I'I which are disposed below the level of the liquid I2, as best seen in Figure 2.
The cover I3 is also provided with a plurality of depending transversely disposed partitions I8 which are arranged between the sleeves I6 and which extend to the bottom of the containerV H for dividing said container into a plurality of compartments i9 in each'of which is disposed a sleeve it. As seen in Figure 3, the sleeves IS extend only part way to the bottom of the'container II, and said sleeves, as seen in Figure 2, are disposed adjacent one side Wall of the container II leaving a space 253 in each of the compertinents I9, between the sleeves It and the other side wall of the container Il. A guide frame 2! extends transversely through the spaces 2% of the compartments i2 and is attached to the partitions I8. The guide 2l is provided with upturned ends 22, as best seen in Figure 3, which extend upwardly through the end compartments I9 and which are attached to the underside of the cover i3.
The portions of the guide frame ZI, which extend through each of the compartments I9, are
provided with an opening 23, and the cover I3 is provided with openings 2d, each of which is arranged to aline with anA opening 23. The alined openings 23 and 2d slidably mount rods 25 which extend perpendicularly into the compartments I9 and which are provided with knobs 26 on their upper ends, which are disposed above the cover I3. A platform 21 is loosely mounted in each of the compartments I9. The platforms 2'I normally rest on the bottom of the container I I and are provided with upturned marginal edges 28 and with a plurality of apertures 29 in the botportion will be disposed within the sleeve I6, of
I the compartment I 9 in which the razor is disposed. The lower ends of the razors 32 will rest on and be supported by the platforms 21, and as illustrated in Figure 2 the razors 32 will be entirely submerged in the liquid antiseptic. The razors 32 can be selectively removed from the cabinet I by elevating the knobs 26 for moving the rods 25 upwardly to thereby raise the platforms 21 to a point where they engage against the lower ends of the sleeves I6, at which elevation the upper ends of the razors 32 will project from the openings I5 so that they may be readily grasped and removed. The platforms 21 are provided with the openings 29 to permit the antiseptic to flow downwardly therethrough when the platforms are raised to prevent the antiseptic from being -f pushed outwardly of the openings I5y and the openings I1 are also provided to permit the antiseptic to flow outwardly of the sleeves I6 as the platforms are raised to maintain the level of the antiseptic in the compartments to thereby provide additional means for preventing the antiseptic from overflowing through the openings I5. The platforms 21 are provided with the upturned marginal edges 28 to insure that the lower ends of the razors 32 will rest on the platforms to be elevated when the platforms are raised. As only a small portion of each compartment I9 is exposed by its opening I5, it will be readily apparent that there will be little loss of the antiseptic by evaporation.
Due to the fact that all of the parts are connected to the cover I3, it will be obvious that the cover I3 can be removed for simultaneously removing all of the parts of the sterilizer I0 from the container II.
Various modifications and changes are contemplated and may obviously be resorted to as only a preferred embodiment of the invention has been disclosed.
I claim as my invention:
1. A sterilizing cabinet for razors comprising a container adapted to contain a liquid antiseptic, a cover for said container provided with a plurality of openings through which razors are adapted to be inserted into the container, sleeves attached to the underside of said cover and extending into said container, said sleeves being disposed around said openings for supporting the razors Within the container and in substantially upright positions, partitions depending from the cover into the container and dividing it into a plurality of compartments in each of which one of said sleeves is disposed, rods extending into the container and slidably mounted in the cover, one of said rods extending into each compartment, and platforms connected to the lower ends of said rods and loosely disposed in the compartments for supporting the lower ends of the razors, said platforms normally resting on the container bottom and each being elevated by the upward movement of the rod, to which it is connected, for elevating the razor supported thereby.
2. A holder for straight razors comprising a cover adapted to be applied to the open top of a container which is adapted to contain a liquid antiseptic, said cover being provided with a plurality of openings to permit the insertion into or removal from said container of straight razors. sleeves projecting downwardly from the cover into the container and surrounding said openings for supporting the razors in substantially upright positions in the container, said cover being provided with a plurality of spaced transverse partitions for dividing the container into a plurality of compartments in each of which is disposed one of said sleeves, a perforated platform loosely mounted in each of said compartments and normally resting on the container bottom, said platforms being adapted to support the lower ends of the razors disposed within the compartments, and said container being of suillcient depth so that the razors can be completely submerged in the antiseptic contained in the container, rods attached to said platforms and projecting upwardly through the compartments and through the cover, and guide means disposed in the compartments and connected to the cover and to the partitions, said rods being slidably mounted in said guide means and cover and being movable upwardly for elevating the platforms for lifting the razors partially above the cover.
3. A device as in claim 2, said sleeves being provided with a plurality of openings below the level of the antiseptic and through which the antiseptic is adapted to pass from the sleeves and into the compartments when the platforms are elevated, saidplatforms being apertured to permit the antiseptic to pass downwardly t'herethrough when the platforms are elevated.
