Description

Sept. 8, 1942. s. M. ULLRICH INFANTS OUTER GARMENT Filed April 24. 1939 Patented Sept. 8, 1942 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE INFANTS OUTER GARMENT Sue Mayercik Ullrich, Ticnesta, Pa.
Application April 24, 1939, Serial No. 269,609
2 Claims.
My invention relates to a combined barrel bottom lining and outer coat, and has for one of its important objects the provision of a garment of this character Which is open at its front to permit the same to be put on or taken off in the same manner as a conventional sleeping bag or outer coat. A further object of the invention is to provide a combined barrel bottom lining and outer coat embodying a construction which will provide Warm covering for the lower portion of the infants body, including the feet, and yet permit the infant to have all the outward appearance of being clothed in a coat. A further object of the invention is to provide a garment which will provide freedom of movement of the arms of the infant and at the same time provide covering and warmth for all parts of its body.
The Figure 1 is a plan view of the garment, showing an infants coat superimposed on a baglike lining..
Figure 2 is a vertical cross-section of the garment on line 2 2.
Figure 3 is a detailed view of a section of the front fastening on line 3 3, showing the coat and lining fastened to the front Zipper closing.
Figure 1 shows the complete garment which has the appearance of an ordinary coat when on. The coat superimposed on the baglike lining may be of any style, the simple style shown, being used merely to illustrate how a coat is used in conjunction with a baglike lining to form the new type of garment.
Figure 2 is a vertical cross-section of the garment showing how the barrel-bottom lining is suspended in the coat, making a warm, snug bag therein for the protection of the infants body and legs. As shown in Figure 3, the coat and barrel-bottom lining, at a point slightly above the bottom of the lining, together fasten up the front of the garment by means of a zipper. The coat may be slightly longer than the closed baglike lining. Said coat is not fastened together in the front beyond the end of said fastener, but is left free as shown.
Throughout the specification and drawing I have shown the use of my invention with a front zipper closing, but I desire to have it distinctly understood that this is simply for the purpose of 5 illustration, and is in nowise to be taken as a limitation of my invention. The garment may be closed in any suitable manner, for instance by means of buttons, strings, or other suitable fastening means, and I claim broadly the right to use all instrumentalities for so closing the garment which are within the scope of my invention.
I am aware that prior to my invention, baglike garments have been made for infants. I, therefore, do not claim invention to this, but, I
claim:
1. An infants outer garment comprising a body encircling lining suspended at the neck opening to the neck opening of a body encircling outer garment, the lining having a closed bottom in the manner of a bag; the outer garment being in the nature of a coat; and a front opening extending down from the neck opening and being common to both the lining and outer garment; means for attaching the lining to the outer gar- 2`5 ment, and a slide fastener or other means of closing said opening so that the lining and outer garment will close simultaneously on operating the fastener.
2. A garment-of the class described, comprising a body encircling lining attached at the neck opening to the neck opening of a body encircling outer garment, said outer garment extending below the bottom of the lining and extending upwardly to a point above the top of the said 1ining; the lining having a closed bottom; and a and outer garment Will close simultaneously on operating the fastener.
