My invention relates to improvements in collar-clip devices and it isV directed more particularly to the provision of a novel collar-clip having a means associated therewith whereby both the tie and collar may be held securely and firmly. in their respective positions as originally arranged. by the wearer.

It is a principal object of my invention to provide a collar-clip device which is so constructed as not only to releasably or to resiliently hold and grip the collar wings in their desired neat and correct positions but also to prevent the tie from sagging or moving to an objectionable extent away from its adjusted position with respect to the collar. to co-operate with the wings of the collar and the knot of the tie so that a trim appearance is maintained at all times.

It is another object of` my invention to provide a tie-holding member which may be readily and inexpensively incorporated into a collar-clip device of the conventional manufacture in such a way that the clips usual and proper function is not interferred with and which provides the collar-clip with the added feature of permitting the holding of the tie in a particular desiredu relation to the collar. That is to say, thev device of my invention includes a gripping or retaining means for the collar and a means for positioning the knot of a tie relative thereto.

It is a particularly unique feature of my invention that the tie-holding means may be produced separately of and apart from the collar clipping means although it is preferably such that it may be incorporated with any of the collar clip devices Which are now commercially available.

With the foregoing and various other novel features and advantages and other objects of my invention as will become more apparent as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certainnovel features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more particularly pointed out in the claims hereunto annexed and more fully described and referred to in connection with the accompaying drawing wherein:

Fig. 1 is a plan View of a preferred form of a device embodying the novel features of my invention;

Fig. 2 is an elevational view of what is shown in Fig. 1;

Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2;

Fig. 4 is a view similar to Fig. 2, with certain 'I'hat is to say, my device is adapted parts thereof in section, showing a modified form of construction of my device; and

Fig. 5 is a view similar'to Figs. 2 and 4, also with certainparts in section, showing still another modified form of construction. A

Referring now to the drawing more in detail, wherein similar reference figures refer to like parts, and referring more particularly to the preferred form of my invention which hasv been selected for illustrative purposes. I have shown a collar-clipdevice which is indicated generally by the characteristic 2 and includes spacedbars 4 and 6. One of the bars, such as 4, engages the other such as 6 with a more or less spring-like action so that the wings or tabs of a collar may Ybe releasablyor yieldingly gripped and held between adjacent and opposite ends of` the bars 4 and 6.

As will be appreciated, the particular formation of the bars may vary widely, asmay alsothe manner in which the collar is gripped; but, according to the form shown, the rear bar 4 has its opposite end portions 8 `curved or bent towards and arranged as to engage the forward bar 6 with a yielding action.

The forward and rear bars are held in a spaced but. connected relation in some manner, and I prefer that they be connected by what IA call a neck member l0 which may obviously vary in its form butv it consists of a metallic web or strip bent around so as to engage and to embrace the bars more or. less in the manner shown in Fig. 1. That is to say, the neck member preferably is substantially permanently engaged with the bars in such a way asA to prevent separation thereof, While at the same time it permits relatively yieldable movements of the opposite end portions of the bars which are desirable so as to permit the insertion of and the spring-like clasping of the wings of a collar.

As will be seen in Fig. 1, the neck member I0 embraces the spaced bars in such a way that portions thereof extend transversely across the space between their intermediate portions.

The tie-holding means will now be described although it is to be understood that the same may take various forms.

The upper transversely-extending or web part of the member l0 is apertured at l2 and through this aperture extends the lower end portion of an elongated rod member I4. TheV latter, as will appear, is intended to be inserted in the knot of the tie so as to hold the same in an upright and non-sagging position with respect to the collar when the clip means is in its operative position,

The upper end of the rod member I4 is provided with an enlarged and preferably a more or less bulbi-formed part I6 and this is disposed within the socket formed by the spaced bars and the neck member which, as described, embraces the same. The arrangement is such that it prevents the separation of the tie-holding means and the clip means but at the same time it permits a more or less swivel action of the rod relative to the collar-clipping members.

Thus, the tie-holding or supporting member is swiveled or pivoted so that it may assume the desired position relative to the collar-clip itself.

In Fig. 4, I have shown a modified form of my construction where the tie-engaging means includes a pair of separate but co-operating rodlike members 20 having transversely-extending U-shaped portions 22 on their lower ends for` embracing a neck member IU', similar tothe member I in Fig. 2. Their upper or free end portions are screw-threaded, as is indicated, so as to be engageable with an internally screwthreaded sleeve member 24, whereby a unitary assembly is provided which is adapted to function in substantially the same manner as the elongated rod previously described and shown in Figs. 1 to 3 inclusive. 'Ihe threaded sleeve member 24 can be screwed up or down relative to the threaded members 20 to any desired position of engagement. Y

As will be clear from this disclosure, the collar clasping means may be substantially the same having similar spaced bars and held in connected relation by the member lli'.

A still further form of my invention is shown in Fig. 5. Here, there is a length of metal bent so as to have its opposite and free end portions 30 in adjacency and insertable through spaced apertures 32 in a neck member I0.

The said portions SOarescreW-threaded and. after insertion through the apertures, may be received in engagement within an internally threaded sleeve 34. The central part of the length of metal is formed so as to have a neckembracing part 33 shown and the arrangement is such that the unitary assembly provides a collar-clip apparatus having a member for insertion within the knot of the tie so as to hold the same in its proper desired position.

The threaded sleeve member is also threadable up and down along the threaded members 33 to any position of engagement thus .permitting an adjustment in the overall length of the ccmposite members. This adjustment permits the wearer to adapt the collar clip to his individual requirements.

The invention may be embodied in other specific forms without departing from the essential characteristics thereof. Hence, the present embodiments are therefore to be considered in all respects merely as being illustrative and not as being restrictive, the scope of the invention being indicated by the appended claims rather than by the foregoing description, and all modications and variations as fall within the meaning and purview and range of equivalency of the appended claims are therefore intended to be embraced therein.

What it is desired to claim and secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:

1. A collar-clip device of the class described comprising in combination, a pair of spaced bar members having end portions in spring-like engagement, a neck member engaging intermediate portions of said bars, and a rod member having its upper end portion pivoted relative to said .neck member and its lower end portion freely extending away therefrom, said upper end portion of the rod member being bulbi-form and disposed between said bar members.

2. A collar-clip device of the class described comprising in combination, a pair of substantially parallel bar members having end portions which are in spring-like engagement for engaging a collar and central portions which are spaced apart, a neck member embracing said spaced central portions and co-operating therewith to provide a socket, and a rod member having a bulbi-formed upper end portion disposed within said socket andpivoted relative to said bar and neck members, the lower end portion of said rod member extending freely away therefrom.

' 3. A collar-clip device of the class described comprising in combination, a pair of substantially parallel horizontally-extending bar members having opposite end portions which are in spring-like engagement for engaging a collar and central portions which are spaced apart, a neck member extending over the top and around the sides of said spaced central portions and cooperating therewith to provide a socket having 'an opening in its lower end, and a rod member having a bulbi-formed upper end portion disposed within said socket and pivoted relative to said bar and neck members and a lower end portion which extends downwardly through said opening in its neck member and freely away from the upperend portion.
