Application August 10, 1953, Serial No. 373 283 `1 Claim. (Cl. 24-49) This invention relates to new and useful improvements and structural refinements in neckte holders, and the principal object of the invention is to provide a holder of the character herein described which is particularly adapted for use in conjunction with four-in-hand neckties and which will efiectively sustain the necktie in place without being exposed to View.

The above object is achieved by the provision of the holder which embodies in its Construction a clasp adapted to be attached to the front of the shirt, and a pair of prongs which are carried by the clasp and are adapted to engage, from the rear or underside, the material of the necktie.

An important feature of the invention resides in the particular configuration or arrangement of the necktie engaging prongs, which are so positioned as to properly and dependably engage the necktie without bulgng the same and without any possibility of damaging the material of the shirt.

Some of the advantages of the invention reside in its extreme Simplicity of Construction, in its adaptability to convenient installation and removal and to its adaptability to economical manufacture.

With the above more important objects and features in view and such other objects and features as may become apparent as this specification proceeds, the invention resides in the details of Construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:

Figure 1 is a front elevational view of a necktie in position on a shirt, illustrating the invention by dotted lines;

Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view, taken substantially in the plane of the lines 2-2 in Figure 1 and on an enlarged scale;

Figure 3 is a fragmentary rear perspective View of a necktie with the invention applied thereto;

Figure 4 is a front perspective view of the invention per se;

Figure 5 is a top plan view of the invention per se; and,

Figure 6 is an end view of the invention.

Referring now to the accompanying drawings in detail, the necktie holder comprises a clasp which is desig- 2,755,530 ?atentati July 24, 1956 nated generally by the reference character 10 and which embodies in its Construction a horizontal metallc bar 12, which is provided with a longitudinally extending, struck out tongue 14 whereby the entire clasp may be conveniently attached to the front of a shirt 16, as will be readily understood.

A pair of angulated neckte engaging pins or prongs 18 are provided at the opposite end portions of the bar 12, these prongs being vertically elongated as best shown in Figures 4 and 6, and being spaced forwardly from the front face of the bar. The prongs 18 are provided at their upper ends with rearwardly and downwardly angulated portions 20 which are rigidly Secured to the bar 12, while the lower ends of the prongs are provided with rearwardly and upwardly extending, pointed extremities 22.

When the invention is placed in use, the clasp 10 is installed in position on the front of the shirt 16 and the pointed extremities 22 of the prongs 18 are engaged with the material at the rear or underside of a tie 24, as is clearly shown in Figure 3. It is preferred that the prongs 18 be engaged with the relatively wide end portion of the tie, while the relatively narrow, underlying end portion 26 of the tie passes between the bar 12 and the wide portion 24, so that it is prevented from becoming displaced in a lateral direction.

The prongs 18 do not project to the front of the tie and the length of the bar 12 is less than the width of the tie 24, whereby the entire holder is efiectively concealed while in use.

From the foregoing, the Construction and operation of the device will be readily understood and further explauation is believed to be unnecessary. However, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact Construction shown and described, and accordingly all suitable modifications and equvalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the appended claim.

What is claimed as new is as follows:

A necktie holder comprsing: a metallic bar for mounting horizontally on a shirt front behind a necktie, a longtudinally extendng clip struck from the bar for securing said bar on the shirt front; and angular pins mounted on the back of the bar adjacent the ends thereof and extending upwardly, forwardly and then downwardly therefrom and terminating in rearwardly and upwardly bent, pointed free end portions adapted to penetrate the tie for anchoring same to the bar.
