Description

July 28, 1942.
J. F. RIDER GUIDE BQOK OR' INTERIOR DECORATORS Filed June 18, 1940 R O T N E V m Patented July 28, 1942 y UNTED ST 'res T OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to books and more especially to books of the type having a plurality of independently paged sections which are mutually common to each other.
While the invention nds its greatest usefulness in the fields of interior decorating and the like, it will be clear from the descriptions given hereinbelow that the inventive concept is capable of embodiment in a wide variety of fields. Consequently while one specific embodiment is disclosed herein, it will be understood that this is done merely for explanatory purposes and not by way of limitation.
An object is to provide a book having a single binding but with two or more independently paged sections which are mutually keyed together so that a page of one section can be correlated to complement a plurality of pages of the other section, and vice versa.
Another object is to provide a book or the like with a single binding and with three or more independently paged sections which are correlated so that one section may be paged independently of the other sections while preserving contextual continuity.
A further feature relates to a novel form of plural-section book for use in interior decorating and similar purposes.
Other features and advantages not specically enumerated will be apparent after a consideration of the following detailed descriptions and the appended claim.
In the drawing, the figure of the drawing is a perspective view of a tri-part book embodying the invention as applied to interior decoration and the like.
The adaptation of the tri-part book to interior decorating uses is shown in the drawing. In the drawing the single binding I8 with its front and back covers I9, 20, binds there separate sets of pages designated 2 I, 22, 23. The successive pages of section 2l represent the side walls of a room, while the pages of section 23 may represent floor designs, including rugs, etc.; and the pages of section 22 may represent ceiling designs. In order to produce the complete complementary effect, the edges of section 2l may be V-cut to give a, perspective effect, and the adjacent edges of sections 22, 23, may be out in a complementary manner so that any selected sei-l of three pages complement each other as shown. By this arrangement, any selected room interior of the section 2| may be kept steadily in View, and the appearance with different kinds of ceiling or floor decorations can be ascertained rapidly merely by turning pages of either or both the sections 22, 2,3. It Will be understood of course that if the actual perspective appearance is not desired, the sections 2l, 22, 23, may have straight edges. Various modiications of the book may be made, for example the central section may be a series of wall paper designs and the pages of upper section 22 may be a series of border designs to be used with the selected wall paper, and the lower section 23 may consist of base-board or other border designs so that any combination of wall paper and upper and lower border designs may be viewed at a glance.
Various changes and modifications may be made in the particular embodiments disclosed without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention- What I claim is:
A guide book for interior decorators and the like comprising a single binding containing three separate sets of pages whereby any page of one set may be independently selectable for simultaneous viewing with any pages of the other two sets and with the subject matter of a page of one set common to the subject matter of a plurality of pages of the other two sets, any three pages forming a unitary true perspective view of the ceiling portion, oor portion and side wall portions of a room interior or the like, the set of pages at the upper end of the book being c ut to follow the perspective line between a ceiling and side walls, the lower set of pages being cut to follow the perspective line between the floor and side walls, and the intermediate set having their opposed edges indented to conform with said perspective lines respectively, whereby when any three sets oi pages are open for view, a complete true perspective view of the side walls, ceiling and floor are provided.
