INVENTOR' WITNESSES N. PETERS. PNOTO-LITHOGRAPHER WASHINGTON. D C.
UNITED STATES GEORGE SNYDER, OF INDIANAPOLIS,
OF HIS RIGHT TO THEODORE INDIANA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF SAUDER, OF SAME PLACE.
BED-LOUNGE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 228,690, dated June 8, 1880.
Applicatidn filed February 6,1880.
To all whom it may concern:
Re it known that I, GEORGE SNYDER, of the city of Indianapolis, county of Marion, and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Folding or Bed Lounges, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which are made a part hereof, and 011 which similar letters of reference indicate similar parts, and of which Figure 1 is a front elevation of my improved lounge when closed Fig. 2, a similar view of the same when first unfolded before the back half of the bed portion is thrown back into position for use; Fig. 3, a transverse vertical section of the open lounge, with the back halft of the bed portion partly raised, and Fig. 4 a top or plan "iew of the lounge when completely open and ready for use as a bed. These drawings are all simply views of the lounge frame before being upholstered or covered in any way.
My invention consists in forming the frame of a bed-lounge of three parts, A, B, and O, hinged together, as shown, in which the part O shall have stops 0 c, which rest on the part A when the lounge is open, and the part A shall have grooves a a to receive said stops when the lounge is closed. This construction is a desirable means of causing the part 0- to be entirely contained within the part A while the lounge is in closed position, and enables it to present a full wooden front, while the bed Upon the part 0 are projections c c, which serve as stops to prevent said part 0 from falling inside the part A when the lounge is fully opened, which it would otherwise do. When the lounge is folded up these stops enter the slots a a, which their changed relative position enables them to (10. v
Having thus fully described my said invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A bed-lounge frame consistingof three parts, A, B, and O, the part-O being hinged to the part B and the part B to the part A, and the part 0 provided with stops 0 0 upon its ends, which rest upon the edges of the ends of the frame A when the lounge is open, but which. by the changed relation of the parts, sink into the grooves a a when the lounge is folded up,
all substantially as herein shown and specified.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal, at Indianapolis, Indiana, this 3d day of February, A. D. 1880.
GEORGE SNYDER. [L. s.]
