1 Claim.
This invention relates to decorative gift containers.
It is the principal object of the invention to provide simple and efiective means for interchangeably mounting decorative devices to gift boxes or the like containers.
Another object of the invention is to provide, in a gift box, means for effecting mounting on the box of decorative insert members, which will not detract from the appearance of the box in the event that the said insert members are not used or are removed from the box.
The invention possesses other objects and features of advantage, which will be specifically set forth in the detailed description of the invention hereunto annexed. It is to be understood that the invention is not to be limited to the specific embodiment thereof herein shown and described, as various other forms thereof may be employed Within the scope of the appended claim.
Referring to the. drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective View of a :box cover containing the improvements of my invention.
Figure 2 is an enlarged fragmental vertical sectional view of .a portion ofthe box cover shown in Figure 1. The plane in which the view is taken is indicated by the line 22 of the latter figure.
Figure 3 is a perspective View of a modified form of decorative insert member.
In detail, I provide a relatively stiif backing sheet 4, which may be, for purposes of explanation, a portion of a removable box cover, indicated generally by the numeral 6, or any other sheet member, with a flexible cover sheet 1, which may be adhesively or otherwise secured to the backing sheet. Spaced parallel and integral portions of the cover sheet 7 are folded or tucked under to form a pair of flaps 8, confronting each other, each flap overlying a crease or recess 9. Separate insert members ll, formed of flexible sheet material, are provided for replaceable mounting on the box cover and may be formed as individual letters or characters shown in Figure 1 or as a unit sheet l2 bearing imprinted characters [3 as shown in Figure 3. In either case the members or 12 are sized so that the dimension between parallel opposite edges will :be in excess of the distance between the bottoms a pleasing ornamentation 0f the container.
therein, tending to return the elements to their normal fiat condition, will function to retain the elements in forcible engagement with thebot toms of the grooves or recesses 9.
It will be seen that a shopkeeper may, with the improved device of my invention, quickly produce individualized containers, bearing the senders or recipients name or initials or legends identifying anniversaries or special days of remembrance, by simply taking the few moments necessary to select and attach the desired insert elements II or l2 to the box or container. It will also be seen that if it is desired that no insert elements be attached to the container, its outward appearance will not suffer since the parallel flaps or pleats 8 will themselves provide Furthermore, it will be seen that since the flaps 8 are formed of integral portions of the sheet and not by overlapped adhesively joined sections thereof, the losses incurred by the return of defective boxes from the Storekeeper to the manufacturer is entirely eliminated.
Having thus described my invention in detail, what'Iclaim as novel and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: V
In a container having a lid, a sheet of flexible material covering and secured to said lid at the marginal edges thereof, said sheet of material having spaced parallel integral portions thereof,
intermediate opposite of itssaid marginal edges,
folded to form pleats of Z-shaped cross sectional form providing a pair of confronting socket recesses traversing said lid, said pleat-forming .portions of said sheet of flexible material being folded over opposite edges of the lid which transverse the pleats so as to arrest unfolding of said pleats, and an insert element of flexible sheet material having parallel opposite edges thereof spaced apart a distance greater than the spacing between said socket recesses, ;and said insert being flexed and 'having its said opposite edges seated in said recesses.
