Description

Jan. 19, 1937. A. POTDEVIN BAG Oi'iginal Filed Oct. 10', 19:54
ATTORNEYS Patented Jan. 19, 1937 UNITED, STATES PATENT OFFICE BAG Original application October 10, 1934, Serial No. 747,681. Divided and this application May 22,
1935, Serial N0. 22,704
2 Claims. (01. 229-53) This invention relates to bags and is particularly directed to bags made from Cellophane, glassine or other materials or any combination of two of these materials, to obtain pleasing effects and attractive packages.
The bag of my present invention is made from two strips of material placed in superimposed relation, one strip being of larger dimensions than the other, the larger strip having its corners removed to provide side and end flanges; the side flanges being folded over upon and secured to the narrower strip and one of the end flanges being folded over and secured to the narrower strip to provide the bottom of the bag.
In the accompanying drawing:
Fig. 1 is a plan View of the two strips which are to constitute a bag, before the same are as sembled; v
Fig. 2 is a view showing the two strips brought together, but bottoming not completed;
Fig. 3 shows the completed bag;
Fig. 4 is a sectional view on line 4--4 of Fig. 3; and
Fig. 5 is a section on the line 55 of Fig. 3.
Referring to the drawing in detail, I designates one strip of material which for clarity of description I will call the rear wall. This strip it will be noted is notched out at the four corners as shown at 2 and 3 to provide side flaps-4 and end flaps 5 and 6.
This strip or wall is conveniently provided with spots or strips I of adhesive to aid in properly positioning the strip 8 thereon, the latter to constitute the front of the bag. This strip 8 I may be of material similar to the strip l or of different material for decorative effects if desired, but in any event is of smaller overall dimensions than the strip I, so as to fit within the limits of the flanges 4 and end flanges 5 and 6.
The side flanges 4 may now be provided with adhesive 9 and with the strip 8 in place, these flaps are folded over upon the strip 8, as seen in Fig. 2. A stripe of adhesive I is then applied transversely to the face of the flaps 4 and the face of strip 8, as seen in Fig. 2, adjacent the bottom end of the assembly, and the composite structure, i. e. flap 6, and'the bottom end of strip 8 folded over along the transverse line H upon the adhesive II) to bottom the bag as seen in Fig. 3.
It will be appreciated that my improved bag may be made of any flexible material such as paper, Cellophane, glassine or the like, and when made of a transparentmaterial has manifold uses for attractively displaying goods. Further decorative and attractive effects may be accomplished by making the bag from diiferent colored transparent materials.
This application is a division of my copending application Serial No. 747,681, filed October 10, 1934.
It is to be understood that Various changes may be made in my improved bag without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention.
What I claim is:-
l. A bag composed of two strips of dissimilar material, one strip being wider and longer than the other, the said strips being assembled face to face with the larger strip extending beyond the smaller strip at the ends and sides of the smaller strip, the smaller strip being adhesively secured to the face of the larger strip adjacent one end of the smaller strip, the projecting sides of the wider strip being folded over upon and adhesively secured to the narrower strip, and the projecting end of the larger strip being folded over upon the shorter strip and the folded-over edges of the larger strip to form a bag bottom.
2. A bag composed of two strips of material, one of said'strips being longer and wider than the other, the larger strip being notched at the corners to provide side flaps and end flaps, the two strips being assembled face to face with the smaller strip disposed centrally of the larger strip, the smaller strip being adhesively secured to the larger strip adjacent one end of the smaller strip, and the side flaps and one of the end flaps of the larger strip being folded over upon the face of the smaller strip to form the side and bottom of the bag.
