Description

(ModeL) W. W. WINTER.
Neck-Yoke.
No. 228,502. Patented June 8, 1880.
WITNESSES INVENTOR firm. Ammm' NPETERS, PHOYO-LITHOGRAPHER. WASHINGTON. D C.
lJNiTED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM W. WINTER, OF CORTLAND VILLAGE, NEW YORK.
NECK-YOKE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 228,502, dated June 8, 1880.
Application filed March 4, 1880.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM IV. WVINTER, of Cortland Village, in the county of Cortland and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Neck-Yokes; and I do hereby declare that the following is afull, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertaius to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to the central neckyoke attachment for receiving and holding the carriage-pole, and is made with leather coverings for both the pole-ring and also the metallic ferrule or band which encircles the center of the yoke.
In the drawings, Figure 1 representsafront view of the central portion of a yoke, showing my improvement attached. Fig. 2 represents a view of the iron ring separate from its cover, and Fig. 3 a view of the iron band which encircles the yoke, and which is covered by the leather band, shown by dotted lines.
The letter A represents the pole-ring With its leather covering, and B the leather band which encircles the yoke. The dotted lines shown in Fig. 1 represent the iron ring A embedded in the leather covering. B represents the iron band, and which is covered by the leather band 13, (shown by dotted lines in Fig. 1.)
My invention is so made that the parts described are all easily detachable, thus affording economy in use and manufacture.
The metallic ring and band A B, with their (Model) leather'eoverings A B, combine strength and durability with finish.
The ring A does not follow a perfect circle, but is elongated and so shaped as to have at its upper part an eyelet or loop, a, above the line of its circle, to receive the bolt i, which secures it to the band B.
Through the leather band B and the leather ring A are corresponding bolt-holes to receive the bolts .r a', by means of which the leather band B is secured to the ring A and held 'in place. 7
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a neck-yoke attachment, the leathercovered pole-ring A, having its iron or metallic covered ring A, with loop a, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
2. For central neck-yoke attachment, the iron or metallic ring A, having eyelet a, in combination with the metallic band B and bolt 17, all leather covered, substantially as and for the purposes specified.
3. For central neck-yoke attachment, the leather-covered pole-ring A, having its metallic ring A made with eyelet a, the metallic band B, connecting-bolt i, and the leather band B, with bolt-holes and boltsa'rv, all combined substantially as and for the purposes described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereunto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WM. W. WINTER.
