Letters Patent No. 112,098, dated February 21, 1871.
IMPROVEMENT IN WHIFFLETREES.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH WARD, of Honeoye Falls, in theeounty of Monroe and State of New York, liaveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in \Vhiiletrees; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
' The nature of my invention consists in. the construction and arrangement of av three-horse whiidetree,7 as will be hereinafter fully setforth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure l is a plan view, and
Figure 2 is a front View of my improved whifiletree.
A A represent two evener-s of suitable .length attached to a plate, B, of iron bent edgewise in the shape of a half circle. This plate is placed between the two eveners, and its ends pivotcd to the eveners about one-third of the distance from their large ends, said ends lapping over each other, as shown.
One evener' is pivot-ed to the upper side of the plate and the other on the under side.
On the long end of each evener is one tug, a., and ou the short end are two tugs equalized by a pulley, b, fastened by iron straps.
The mode of attaching the horses to this whifetree, and its operation, are readily seen without fur- What I claim, therefore, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
"Ihe curved plate B, secured to and usedin combination with bars A A, as and for the purpose set forth.
