WILLIAM BRAY, OF PETITOODIAO, NEW BRUNSWICK, CANADA.
CARPET-FASTEN ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 228,306, dated June 1, 1880.
Application filed February 7, 1880.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM BRAY, of the village of Petitcodiac, in the county of Westmoreland and Province of New Brunswick, Canada, have invented a new and useful Device for Fastening Carpets, a description of which is fully and clearly given in the following specification, reference being made to the accompanying drawings.
The object of my invention is to form a cheap and efficient fastening device by which a carpet may be securely held in position, and from which it can be readily detached without injury to the fabric, leaving the device in readiness for reattaching the carpet or for its own removal.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of the device attached. Fig. 2 is a section at one of the eye-screws b, and Fig. 3 is a side view of one of the fastenings c.
A represents a piece of the room-floor. B represents a piece of the base-board, and 0 represents a piece of the carpet. 7
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
Around the edge of the room, at the junction of the floor and base-board, a suitable number of eye-screws, I), are inserted, (either vertically, horizontally, or at any required angle,) through which the rods to are passed, in such lengths as may be found most convenient. Upon the rods a are placed, at proper intervals, spring-catches c, the one end of which presses against the base-board B, while the other hooks into and securely holdsthe carpet 0.
The pieces I), if preferred in any case, may be made without the screw-thread upon them, and thus driven in; or the spring-catches 0 may be varied in form to a reasonable extent, as the exigencies of the manufacture and use of the articles may require, the combination of parts remaining substantially the same or, otherwise, where the circumstances seem to render it necessary, the rods a may be dispensed with and the spring-catches directly attached to the eye-screws I).
The several parts a, b, and 0 can be manufactured very cheaply, or of more costly material and finish, as may be desired. They can be easily attached and detached, and, with onlya little hook in hand for-lifting the catches, the carpet may be fastened or unfastened with great facility.
I am aware that the several mechanical parts, separately, are not new.
What I claim as my invention, and wish to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a carpet-fastener, the combination, with the rods (0 and eye-screws b, of the springcatches 0, coiled about the rods, one end being provided with a hook to hold the carpet and the other adapted to press against the baseboard, substantially as described.
Signed at Petitcodiac, N. B., this 31st day of January, 1880.
WILLIAM EBAY.
