"WILLIAM M. SHOPBELL, OF AURORA SPRINGS, MISSOURI.
CARPET-FASTENER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 300,289, dated June 10, 1884.
Application filed March 17, 1884. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it nuty concern Be it known that I, WILLIA M. SHOPBELL, of Aurora Springs, in the county of Miller, and in the State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Carpet- Fasteners; and I do hereby declare that the following is afull, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
My invention relates to a mode of fastening carpets to doors; and to carry out my object I provide a hollow V-shaped strip, which is strip is secured to the floor, a suitable distance from the base-board, by means of screws or nai1s.
(I (Z represent a series of headed and pointed nails, which pass through that side of the strip next to the base-board and at right angles to it, thus pointing it toward the base-board at an angle of forty-five degrees. The heads of these pointed nails are hid in the cavity of the strip and rest against the floor, so that after the strips are fastened to the floor the nails are held securely in place and can only be removed by removing the strip. In case the nail should be broken, it can easily be replaced by taking up the strip and inserting another in its place.
I am aware that points secured to the floor have been used before; hence I disclaim this general idea of securing carpets to floors.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The V-shaped strip 0, having a cavity in its under side, and the headed and pointed nails projecting through and at right angles to one side of the strip, in combination with the floor and base-board of a room, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature, in presence of two witnesses, this 7th day of March, 1884.
