PATENT OFFICE.
BURTON J. HOPKINS, OF ONTARIO, NEW YORK.
.APPLE-CORER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 227,901, dated May 25, .1880.
Application filed March 10, 1880. (ModeL) of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in ,GombinedApple Oorer and Slicer; and I do hereby declare the following to be afnll, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in combined apple coring and slicing machines, the object being to provide a machine which will be simple in its construction, durable and efficient in use, and adapted to be supplied to the trade at a small initial cost, and which will extract the cores and slice the cored ap ple, forming ring slices for drying; and to this end my invention consists in certain features of construction and combination of parts, as will hereinafter be described, and pointed out in the" claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is 'a view, in perspective, of a combined apple corer and slicer. Fig. 2 is a plan View. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section. Fig. 4 is a detached view of the coring mechanism. Fig. 5 represents a detached view of the slicer in side elevation.
A represents a table, to which are secured the uprights B, the latter serving as supports for the parallel bars 0 C. One end of the bar or plank G is provided with a groove, D, formed with undercut sides a a a, in which groove is placed the reciprocating slide E, the latter having beveled edges 1) b, which fit within the undercut side of groove D, and thus prevent the displacement of slide E.
March, 1880.
To the lower end of slide E is fastened the coring-tube F by means of the block 0 and screw or rivets (1, one or more. The upper end of coring-tube F is beveled off, as shown, thereby forming an elongated opening, 0, about which is secured the end f of the core-delivery trough G.
Slide E is operated by a lever, H, which is pivoted to one of the uprights B at g, and is provided with an elongated slot, 9, in which Works a pin or screw connected with the block con slide E.
Beneath the coring-tube and in vertical line therewith a hard-Wood block, it, is inserted in the table, the block being arranged so that the grain of the wood shall be in line with the stroke of the coring-tube and receive its blow.
An arm, h, (shown in Fig. 3,) is secured to one of the uprights, and serves to force the cored apple off the coring-tube when the latter is raised and cause the apple to drop from the coring-tube through the opening it in the table, beneath which latter is placed a basket or other receptacle to receive the cored apples.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- V The combination, with the straight coringtube having its upper extremity cut diagonally I to form a large opening, of a discharge-spout secured to the tube, and having its connecting extremity fitted to said tube-opening, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 3d day of BURTON J. HOPKINS. Witnesses:
D. GONANT, I M. HOPKINS.
