ILPETFS. FHOTOJJTHOGRAFHER. WASHINGTON. D. C.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM H. WOLFE, OF FISHERSVILLE, VIRGINIA.
EGG-CARRIER.
SPECIFICATION forming part lof Letters PatentNo. 227,870, dated May 18, 1880. Application filed March 31, 188D. (No model.)
To all whom it may cotera:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. WOLFE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fishersvilie, in the county of Augusta and State of Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in .Egg-Carriers; andI do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilledin the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to theaccompanyingdrawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
|This invention relates to an improved device for packing and transporting eggs; and it has for its object to provide a systemvof drawers contned in a suitable packing-case and provided with supports for the eggs, by which the same may be held separately and out ot' contact with each other and in a vertical position, whereby all danger of breakage in handling and transportation is avoided, as more 4full y hereinafter specied.
These objects l attain by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l indicates a perspective'view of my apparatus with the door partially raised, as
shown in dotted lines 5 and Fig. 2, a vertical sectional View of my apparatus, showing the egg-supporting devices.
The letter A indicates the exterior or packing-case of my'improved device, which is rectangular in shape and provided with an opening in front, which is adapted to be closed by means of a-door, C, sliding in grooves'D at each side of the casing. The casing is provided with a loosely-attached hasp, E, adapted to tit over a staple, F, on the sliding door, by
and by which they are supported. The openings in the lower partition are directly below those in the upper partition, the openings in the upper partition being larger than th ose below, and of such size to embrace the eggs around their larger parts, the lower apertures being of a size to receive and hold the ends of the eggs. j
The operation of my invention will be readily understood, in connection with the above de scription, without further explanation.
The outer frame or casing is provided with casters or rollers N, by which the device may be readily moved from place to place.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a device for packing and transporting eggs, the combination of the outer casing, A, provided with a door, C, and devices for locking the same, with the sliding drawers adapted to fit in said casin g, and provided with partitions I K, having apertures L M, the upper apertures being larger than those below, so as to hold the eggs in-an upright position, substantially as set forth and shown.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence'of two witnesses.
WILLIAM H. WOLFE. Witnesses:
