4 Claims.
This invention relates to improvements in display devices for store and store window display purposes.
One of the important features of the invention resides in a collapsible display device which may be set up for a multiplicity of purposes, such as a conventional three panel window display, and after serving such purpose, the same may be removed from the store window and set up as a merchandise display and storage stand.
Another feature of the invention is to provide a display device which is convertible into two separate display positions and which produces a new advertising appeal, thus the life and utility of the display device is prolonged to the advantage of the advertiser whose advertisement may appear on the display units and whose merchandise may be displayed thereon.
A further feature of the invention is to provide an advertising display device having the advantages pointed out above, and which is capable of being collapsed into flat condition to facilitate shipment, and which is of a simple construction to enable the store keeper to readily set up the display device into any of its several forms.
Other novel features of the invention will become apparent as the following specification is read in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, in which,
Figure 1 is a perspective View of the display unit set up for a three panel window display.
Figure 2 is a perspective View of the display looking at the rear thereof.
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the display unit set up for use as a display stand.
Figure 4 is a vertical transverse sectional view on the line 4-4 of Figure 3.
Referring to the drawings by reference characters, the letter A designates the display units in its entirety which includes a single rectangular blank or body of cardboard scored transversely on two sets of spaced parallel lines I ll to divide the same into a main or mid panel [2, end panels l3-|3, and relatively narrow stepback panels l4--I4. The end panels l3l3 are articulated to the mid panel l2 by the score lines l0 and II whereby the end panels may be compactly folded flat against the mid panel for convenient packing and shipping purposes. The
front sides of the panels I2 and I3 are adapted to contain printed advertising indicia of any article of merchandise. In Figure 1 the display unit A is shown set up for use as a three panel window advertising display, and by reason of a novel combination of elements now to be described, the same may be set up as a store display stand as illustrated in Figures 3 and 4.
Hingedly mounted on the rear of the mid panel I 2 and extending thereacross are upper and lower shelf members B and C respectively. The shelf members are constructed of cardboard and the shelf member B is scored along longitudinal parallel lines l5 and I6 to divide the same into a shelf panel ll, an attaching flap I8 and a downwardly foldable flap I9. The attaching flap I8 is adhesively secured to the rear of the midpanel I2, whereby the shelf panel I l is free to swing or hinge along the score [5. The shelf panel ll is provided with slots 2020 adjacent its free corner edges. The cardboard blank from which the lower shelf member C is constructed is scored longitudinally on the lines 2| and 22 to divide the same into a shelf panel 23, an attaching flap 24, and a downwardly foldable flap 25. The attaching flap 24 is adhesively secured to the rear side of the mid panel 23. Integral with the shelf panel 23 and cut out from a portion of the flap 25 are locking tongues 26-26, the same being located adjacent the free corners of the shelf panel.
Hingedly mounted on the rear side of the end panels I 3-13 are prop members D-D. Each prop D is formed from a single strip of cardboard which is scored lengthwise on the line 21 to divide the same into an attaching flap 28 and a locking prop flap 29. The attaching flaps 28 are adhesively secured to the rear side of the end panels l3-I3, and the prop flaps 29 extend upwardly from the bottom edges of the said panels and are of a length equal to the distance from the lower edge of the mid panel l2 to the fold line l5 of the upper shelf member. Formed integral with and projecting above the top of the prop flaps are reduced locking tongues 30-30 for reception in the slots 2020. Slots 3l-3l are provided in the prop flaps 29 adjacent the bottoms thereof and which receive the locking tongues 26-26 of the lower shelf member C.
To set up the display unit A for use as a store display stand, the end panels l3l3 are swung rearwardly of the mid panel l2 so as to extend substantially at right angles thereto. The prop flaps 29 are swung to a position at right angles to the end panels l3-|3, the panel shelfs l1 and 23 of the shelf members B and C respectively are swung upward to horizontal positions, whereupon the tongues 3IJ30 are inserted into the slots 2020, and the tongues 2B26 are inserted into the slots 3|3l, after folding the flap 25 downwardly on the fold line 22. The flap I9 is folded downwardly on the fold line 16. The display unit A is now in a set up position for use as a store display stand, for it is possible to stack merchandise for sale upon the upper shelf B, and store additional stock upon the lower shelf C for replenishing the displayed merchandise as it is sold.
The interlocking means for securing the display unit A in stand forming position is novel, in that there are no slots provided in the panels l2, l3-l3, which would be objectionable when the display unit is set up for a three panel display as illustrated in Figure 1 of the drawings.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that we have provided a multi-purpose display device which will extend the advertising life of a window and store display and result in added profits to the advertiser whose product is advertised thereby. The display unit A is foldable fiat for shipping and storage purposes and may be easily set up by a store keeper for display purposes.
While we have shown and described what we consider to be the most practical embodiment of our invention, we wish it understood that such changes in construction and design as come within the appended claims may be resorted to if desired, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described the invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is:
1. A display device comprising in combination, a mid panel, opposite end panels articulated to said mid panel and extending backwardly therefrom, a pair of shelf members hingedly connected in superposed relation to the rear of the mid panel and respectively disposed inwardly of the top and bottom edges thereof, a prop member hinged along a vertical axis to the inner side of each of the end panels and extending upwardly from the bottom edge thereof, and tongue and slot connections between the shelf members and the prop members for supporting the shelf members in shelf forming position.
2. A display device comprising in combination, a mid panel, opposite end panels articulated to said mid panel and extending backwardly therefrom, a pair of shelf members hingedly connected in superposed relation to the rear of the mid panel and respectively disposed inwardly of the top and bottom edges thereof, prop members hinged to the inner sides of the end panels and extending upwardly from the bottom edges thereof, tongues extending from the tops of the prop members, slots in the upper of the shelf members for receiving said tongues, tongues extending rearwardly from the lower of the shelf members, and slots in the prop members for receiving the last named tongues.
3. A collapsible display device comprising a three panel cardboard body having a mid panel, and opposed end panels connected to the mid panel along score or fold lines, said end panels being folded rearwardly of the mid panel so as to assume positions at an angle relative to the mid panel, a prop hinged along a vertical axis to the inner side of each of the end panels and extending upwardly from the bottom edges thereof, bracing members hinged to the rear of the mid panel and engageable with the props, and releasable interlocking elements on said props and said members for securing the panels in fixed angular positions relative to each other.
4. A display device comprising a one-piece collapsible U-shaped cardboard body having a front panel section and end panel sections hingedly connected to the respective ends of the front panel section along hinged scores, a pair of shelf members hingedly connected in spaced superposed relation to the rear of the front panel section, a prop member hinged along a vertical axis to the inner side of each end wall panel section and rising from the bottom edge thereof, a reduced tongue provided at the top of each prop member, slots provided in the upper shelf memher for the reception of the reduced tongues, tongues extending rearwardly from the lower shelf member, and horizontally disposed slots provided in the prop members for respectively receiving the last named tongues, whereby to hold the U-shaped body in rigid braced set up position.
