N-FETERm PNOTO-UTMOGRAMER. WASHINGTON, D C.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.Y
JOHN BARNETT AND CHARLES T. HURLBUBT, OF BROOKLYN, N. Y.
I cAsE FOR MEDlclNEs'.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 227,719, dated May 18, 1880.
Application filed March 16, 1880. (No model.)
-`drawn from the case twice in succession.
Where two. bottles or receptacles only are contained in the case they are brought alter- 'nately into a convenient position'to be Withdrawn, and where three or more are used they are brought into such position in regular order of succession.
Our invention consists in a box or case provided with an opening in its end, through which the bottles or receptacles may be inserted, an exit-opening in the side of the box or case, through which the bottles or receptacles may be withdrawn, said exit-opening being preferably provided with a hinged cover, and a spring-pusher for forcing the bottles or receptacles from said entrance-opening to said exit-opening, whereby when onex bottle or receptacle is withdrawn another is moved forward to take its place. v
It also consists in details of construction to be hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a box or ease embodying our invention, and Fig. 2 represents a vertical section thereof.
Similar letters of reference designate corresponding parts in both the igures.
A designates the box or case, which is, in the present instance, made of a size to contain two receptacles, B, (here represented as being of bottles,) for containing pills, liquids, or other medicinal preparations. In this example of my invention the opposite edges of the box or case are rounded, so as to approximately t the bottles B.
In one end of the box or case is an entranceopening, C, through which the bottles or other receptacles may be inserted, and in the side of the box or case is an exit-opening, D, through which the bottles or receptacles may be withdrawn. A
E designates a spring-pusher arranged in the box or case, and serving to push or force the bottles or receptacles toward the exitopening as fast as the said bottles or receptacles are withdrawn. As here represented this pusher consists of two plates of sheet metal, a b, united at one end by means of a spiral spring, c. The plate a is made to t against one side of the box or case, and the plate b is curved, so as to be readily pushed back or deflected by the bottle or receptacle as it is entered through the entrance-opening C.
In the present instance the exit-opening D is closed by hinging a portion of one side and also a portion of one end, so as to constitute a cover, A. This construction is very desirable, as the curved edge d constitutes a retaining-lip and prevents the bottles or receptaeles from beingthrown out by the resilience of the spring-pusher E. A portion, @fof the top of the box is fixed to the hinged cover A', and therefore aifords facility of access to the bottles or receptacles. y By reference to Fig. l it will be readily understood that as each bottle or receptacle is withdrawn from the exit-openin gD the bottle -or bottles, receptacle or receptacles, in the rear of the one withdrawn are each moved forward by the spring-pusher.
' Any material may be employed for making the box or case. It may, for example, be made of metal, wood, paper, leather, rubber, or any of these materials, covered with thin leather or paper, and embossed or decorated, so as to present a neat and attractive appearance.
What we claim as our invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The case or box adaptedVV to hold two or more bottles or receptacles, provided with an entrance-opening in one end thereof for the insertion of the bottles or receptacles, an
exit-opening in the side of the box or case for the Withdrawal of the bottles or receptacles, and a spring-pusher for moving the bottles or receptacles from the entrance-opening to 5 the exit-opening, substantially as specified.
2. The case or box A, provided with the entrance-opening G, the exit-opening D, the spring-pusher E, and the hinged cover A',
having a portion, e, of the Atop of the case or box afxed thereto, substantially as specified. 1o
