CASE FOR MED|C|NES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 225,320, dated March 9, 1880.
4 Application led December 30, 1875).
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JOHN BARNETT, of the city, county, and State of N ew York, and CHARLES TAYLOR HURLRURT, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and said State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gases for Medicines, Src., of which the following is a specification.
The object of our invention is to provide a case for two or more bottles or other receptacles for medicines in liquids, pills, or other forms, and which is so constructed that the same bottle cannot be by accident drawn from the case twice in succession. Where two botcase they are brought alternately into a convenient position for being withdrawn, and where three or more are used they are brought into such position in regular order of succession.
Our invention consists in a box or case for containing two or more bottles or receptacles having an opening through and above which one bottle may project for bein gtaken out, and an elevated shield in rear of said opening projecting above and always protecting the other bottle or bottles, receptacle or receptacles, from being taken out, and furnished with a springpusher which always acts upon the bottles or receptacles to push them from said shield toward said opening. Then a bottle is drawn from the exit-opening' the remaining bottle or bottles are pushed forward, bringing another in convenient position for withdrawal, and, after using the medicine, the bottle is to be inserted through t-he entrance-opening in the rear of the bott-le or bottles in the case.
Our invention also consists in a novel construction of spring -pusher for such box or case.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l represents a perspective view of a medicine-case embodying our invention. Fig. 2 represents a vertical section through such case, and Fig. 3 represents a vertical section of a box or case of slightly modified form.
Similar letters of reference designate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Referring, first, to Figs. l and2, A designates the box or case for the reception of the bottles or receptacles. Although here represented as of a size to hold only two bottles or receptacles, B, it might be made of a size to hold three or more. The box or case is provided with an opening, C, for the insertion of the bottles or receptacles B, situated in the elevated portion or shield G at the top of the box or case, and also with an exit-opening, D, for the withdrawal of the bottles or receptacles, formed in a recess below said elevated portion or shield, and so constructed that the bottle or receptacle protrudes through said exit-opening to permit of its being readily reached.
The elevated portion or shield G is constructed to surround the bottle or receptacle and extend above it sufficiently to prevent its being readily reached with the fingers until it is pushed forward to the exit-opening.
Within the box or case is arranged a springpusher, E, which pushes the bottles or receptacles toward the end of the box at which the exit-opening is situated. In. the present instance this pusher lconsists of a plate or piece, o, of sheet metal, connected at the top by means of a spiral spring, a, which constitutes a hinge to a plate, b, which rests against one end of the box or case A; but it might be otherwise constructed.
When the bottle or receptacle which is at the exit-opening D is withdrawn the other bottle is pushed forward by the pusher E into the position occupied by the tirst bottle or receptacle, and after using the medicine from the bottle or receptacle which has been withdrawn, it may be inserted through the opening C, forcing the pusher E back against the force of the spring a.
In order to provide a convenient and handsome case, which may be readily carried in the pocket, we place the box or case A in au outer case, F, whichis provided with a hinged cover, F', and which may be embellished and ornamented in any desirable style. Although the style of box or case shown in Figs. l and 2 is very desirable, other styles might be made, as, for instance, that represented in Fig. 3.
In Fig. 3 there is represented a shield, C', for protecting the bottles or receptacles and preventing them from being withdrawn in the IOO same manner as the shield in Figs. l and 2, and also an exit-opening, D, above which. the bottle or receptacle projects so as to be conveniently withdrawn, and which may be closed by a hinged cover, H. i In this example of our invention the hole U for the insertion of the bottles or receptacles is at the bottom of the case or box, and the spring-pusher E is for this.
reason inverted; but in all other respects the box or case is similar to that represented in Figs. l and 2.
What we claim as our invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A box or case for containing two or more bottles or receptacles having an openin g through and above which one bottle may project for bei-ng taken out, and an elevated shield in rear of said opening projecting above and always protecting the other bottle or bottles, recep'tacle or receptacles, from being taken out, and furnished with a spring-pusher which always acts upon the bottles or receptacles to push them from said shield toward said opening, substantially as specified.
portion or shield, through which one only of' 3o the bottles or receptacles contained in the box can be reached, and provided with a springpusher, E. for pushing the bottles 0r receptacles from the opening C to the opening D, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
3. The box or case A, having openings G D and shield C', spring-pusher E, and lid F', covering both of said openings, substantially as specified.
4. The spring-pusher E, composed of the two plates c b, connected by means of a spiral spring, a, arranged to form a hinge, substanltially as specited.
