One object of the invention is to provide a hair curler of 'the indicated type which is of :simple construction, easy to use, and which is comfortable in use.

Another object of the invention is to provide a hair curler which can be produced and sold at low cost.

A further object of the invention is the pro vision of a hair curler constructed and arranged to carryprinted matter or the like for' ornamental, advertising or other purposes.

The above objects of the invention and other .objects'which might hereinafter appear will be more fully understood from the following .description considered in connection with the accompanying drawing.

Referring now to the drawing in further detail, the hair curler l0 embodying the present invention comprises a frame member l2 and a sheath or sleeve l4 positioned over said frame member. Said sleeve I4 is preferably formed of flexible and elastic rubber tubing and said frame member 12 is preferably formed of wire bent into the form of a loop, with overlapping ends, and dimensioned in relation to the sheath so that the latter snugly fits thereover. A rubber or other elastic band I6 is attached to the frame member 12 being engaged with the looped end I8 of said frame-member. The opposite end of said frame member is provided with a re-entrant portion 20 to form a notch 22 in which band I6 is engaged when said band is in hair-retaining position as illustrated in Fig. 4. 24 and 26 of frame member l2 adjacent notch 22 are disposed in diverging relation for engaging the inner surface of the end portion 28 of sheath l4 and for stretching the same somewhat thereby to hold thesheath in place on the frame. This construction facilitates the insertion of the frame in the sheath, since the width of the frame can be less than the internal diameter of the sheath except at the

end portions

24 and 26 which, when the frame is fully inserted in the sheath, grip and stretch the adjacent end portion of the sheath for holding the latter on the frame. The flared end portion 28 of the sheath is provided with notches 30 which conform to the notch 22 ofthe frame. In the form of the invention illustrated-in Fig. '7 the hair curler IDA comprises a -frame member 34 of suitable sheet material such as Celluloid or the like which is water-proof or otherwise water-resistant and which is flexible but sufiiciently stiff to hold the sheath 36 in position thereon. Said sheath 35 is transparent or sufficiently .translucent to permit the 1 frame member 34 to be wholly or partly visible through .the wall of the sheath. Said frame membercan have advertising or other matter printed or otherwise applied thereto, the printed or other matter carried by the frame member being visible through the sheath. Sheath 36 is preferably formed of Celluloid or Cellophane and is waterproof or otherwise water-resistant. The hairretaining band I6 is secured in a notch 38 provided in the frame member adjacent one end thereof and is engageable in a notch 40 provided in the opposite ends of the frame member. Hair curler IDA is used in the same way as hair curler ID as illustrated in Fig. 4, the strand of hair being wound around the sheath 36 and held in place by the band I6.

While I have shown and described the invention more or less in detail, it will be understood that various changes in the construction and arrangement of parts may be made and will occur to those skilled in the art. Accordingly, I do not wish to be limited to the invention as herein specifically shown or described except to the extent which may be required by the scope of the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

2. A hair curler comprising a frame member, a

tubular sheath fitting over said frame member, said tubular sheath constituting means for the winding thereon of a strand of hair for the curling thereof, said frame member comprising a wire loop and being substantially entirely enclosed within said sheath, and an elastic band attached to said loop at one end thereof and adapted to extend longitudinally of said sheath over the strand of hair wound thereon and adapted to be connected to said loop at the opposite end thereof.

A hair curler comprising a frame member, a tubular sheath fitting over said frame member, said tubular sheath constituting means for the winding thereon of a strand of hair for the curling thereof, said frame member comprising a wire loop and being substantially entirely enclosed within said sheath, and an elastic band attached to said loop at one end thereof and adapted to extend longitudinally of said sheath over the strand of hair wound thereon, said band being held releasably in hair-retaining position by engagement with the opposite ends of said frame member.

A hair curler comprising a frame member, a tubular sheath fitting over said frame member, said tubular sheath constituting means for the winding thereon of a strand of hair for the curling thereof, said frame member comprising a wire loop having a .fiaring end portion, said sheath being elastic and stretched at one end portion thereof by said flaring end of said frame member, and a hair-retaining member attached to said frame member and adapted to extend longitudinally of said sheath over the strand of hair wound thereon.

5. A hair curler comprising a frame member,

a tubular sheath fitting over said frame member, said tubular sheath constituting means for the winding thereon of a strand of hair for the curling thereof, said frame member having a flaring end portion, said sheath being elastic and stretched at one end portion thereof by said flaring end of said frame member, and a hair-retaining member attached to said frame member and adapted to extend longitudinally of said sheath over the strand of hair wound thereon.

A hair curler comprising a frame member, a tubular sheath fitting over said frame member, said tubular sheath constituting means for the winding thereon of a strand of hair for the curling thereof, said frame member being formed of sheet material and said sheath being sufiiciently transparent or translucent to permit said frame member to be seen therethrough, and a hairretaining member attached to said frame member and adapted to extend longitudinally of said sheath over the strand of hair wound thereon.

A hair curler comprising a frame member, a tubular sheath fitting over said frame member, said tubular sheath constituting means for the winding thereon of a strand of hair for the curling thereof, said frame member being formed of sheet material and said sheath being sufficiently transparent or translucent to permit said frame member to be seen therethrough, and a hairretaining member attached to said frame member and adapted to extend longitudinally of said sheath over the strand of hair wound thereon, said frame and sheath being formed of waterresistant material.

A hair curler comprising a frame member, a tubular sheath fitting over said frame member, said tubular sheath constituting means for the winding thereon of a strand of hair for the curling thereof, said. frame member being formed of sheet material and said sheath being sufficiently transparent or translucent to permit said frame member to be seen therethrough, said frame member having a notch in one side edge thereof and a notch in one end thereof, and an-elastic band secured to said frame member by engagement in said first mentioned notch and adapted to extend longitudinally of said sheath and engageable in said second notch and thereby held in hair-retaining position.
