SALES PROMOTIONAL CHECK Michael W. Kutscher, Chicago, Ill.
Application April 26, 1941, Serial No. 390,593
1 Claim.
This invention relates to novel improvements in a sales promotional check.
One of the objects of this invention is to provide a sales promoting device, in the nature of a check or negotiable instrument, which bears certain information concerning a prize or award to be given to the bearer, and which is to be distributed gratis to each person entering the business establishment on business, wherein the prize information is normally concealed but is readily revealable, thereby providing an element of pleasant surprise for the customer to induce good business relations.
A further object of this invention is to provide such a sales promoting check which has the prize data normally concealed by a panel which bears instructions for opening it and which is especially arranged so as to be very readilyopened by the bearer. 7
Another object of this invention is to provide a sales promotional check which is arranged so as to be inexpensive in its manufacture, and is also interesting and conveniently utilized, to serve its intended purpose of creating cheerfulness and good will for the business.
Other objects and advantages are attained with this invention, as will become apparent from the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein the invention is disclosed in its preferred form, it being evident that other arrangements and forms of construction may be resorted to for carrying out the objects and purposes of this invention.
In the drawing:
Fig. l is a front face view of a check embodying the features of this invention in its preferred form of construction.
Fig. 2 is a view of the inner side of the rear sheet or ply of this check.
Fig. 3 is a View similar to that of Fig. 1, but having the panel opened and indicated by a raised corner the two sheets hereof which are secured together. a
Fig. 4 is a cross-sectional view, taken on line 4-4 of Fig. 3.
The drawingdiscloses my sales promoting de vice in the nature of a check or negotiable ins'trument' and in the form of a substantially rectangular double ply card-like member 6, which consists of a front ply or sheet I and a rear ply or sheet 8, being secured together by adhesive means ID or in some other suitable manner, except across an openable panel 9 provided in the front sheet.
The panel 9 is defined and is formed by providing a perforated or weakened line H extending longitudinally of the front sheet 1, and a pair of slits or cuts H. which extend from its two ends transversely of the sheet. A slit or cut I3 is provided in the middle part of said weakened line H, adapted to have a finger nail readily thrust therein, so as to facilitate the quick and convenient opening of this panel, which is further facilitated by the pair of side slits l2.
The front sheet I bears on its front face the informative data [4 stating the name and address of the business establishment, and thus serves as advertising data; and it also bears the data l5 simulating that of a check or negotiable instrument. This front sheet furthermore, has provided on the front of the closed panel 9 certain data I6, which is in the form of instructions for raising the panel, at the center where the cut I3 is provided, to readily receive the finger nail therein for conveniently opening the panel.
The rear sheet 8 bears on its forward or inner face only the data l1, being located beneath the panel 9 and initially concealed thereby, and setting forth the prize or award to be given to the bearer of this device 6; and in the form of the invention disclosed herein such prizes are preferably in forms of cash amounts which will range from one cent to several dollars each, the smaller amounts being the most prevalent, of course.
By this arrangement the promotional instrument is readily and inexpensively constructed, as the front sheet I bears all of its data, l4, l5, IS, on the front face, which is thus readily provided thereon by one operation; while the rear sheet 8 likewise has its data I! and also its adhesive means l0 provided on the forward or inner face, which can also be provided by one feeding operation of this sheet. These two sheets are then readily pressed or secured together.
Furthermore, in the heretofore provided promotional devices of this kind the ordinary weakened lines were used for defining the panel, which made it diflicult to open such panel, unless a pointed instrument was used; whereas, with my improved arrangement and construction the finger or its nail can readily be thrust into the center cut l3 and the panel can be very conveniently opened. This construction thus provides an inexpensive and conveniently operable and actually useful sales promoting device.
I claim:
A sales promotional check consisting of a two ply card-like member of sheet material composed of a front sheet and a rear sheet, the front sheet containing a substantially rectangular portion having a weakened line extending longitudinally of the member to form one side of said portion, a pair of slits at the two ends of said line extending transversely therefrom, the other side of said portion opposite said weakened line and between the free ends of said pair of slits remaining whole to serve as a bending line, thereby providing a readily openable panel, the central part of said weakened line being fully cut, to facilitate engaging a finger nail therein for readily opening the panel, the panel bearing data directed toward opening it, and the rear sheet bearing on its inner side, normally concealed by the panel, certain data stating the cash prize to be awarded to the bearer, and also having provided beyond and around said data suitable means whereby the two sheets are secured together.
