To @ZZ whom t may concern.'
Be it known that l, Isaac Lnrnowrrz, a citizen of the United States, residing at Vilest Hoboken, in the countyy of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Calendars and Bulletins; and l do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appert-ains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to characters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specilication.
This invention relates,4 generally, to improvements in calendars; and the invention has reference, more particularly, to a novel construction of combined calendar and information bulletin.
The invention has for its principal-0bject to provide anovel construction and arrangement of calendar back and pad for use by societies, clubs, associations or other organizations desiring` to disseminate information'relative to its activities. To this end the novel calendar and bulletin is adapted to provide spaces in connection with the calendar leaves for special notices and bulletins of events to occur during each month of the year, and a space on the calendar back for the setting forth of society or association rules, regulations and general information relative to the organization issuing the calendar, together with an indicating tab or space in connection with each calendar leaf which will refer the user to the location of said rules, regulations and general information. Said calendar leaves being arranged in a novel lapped relation one to the other so that the said indicating spaces of all leaves are constantly visible, thus reiterating and emphasizing the warning to the user as to the location ofthe said rules, regulations and general information which it is desired to impress upon the user, whereby the psychological effect of arousing the users curiosity and attention is made use of in bringing the user to uncover and read the normally hidden information.
Other objects of this invention, not at this time more particularly enumerated, will be clearly understood from the following detailed description of the same,
Serial No. 621,503.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a front elevation or face view of the novel combined calendar and information bulletin, made according to and embodying the principles ,of this invention; Figure 2 is a side edge elevation ofthe same. Figure 3 is a fragmentary face view of the calendar pad alone; Figures l, 5, 6 and 7 are similar views'showing various leaves removed; Figure 8 is a fragmentary perspective view of the calendar pad. Figure 9 is a face view of the calendar back with the pad removed.
- Similar characters of reference are employed in all of the hereinabove described views, to indicate corresponding parts.
Referring now to said drawings, the reference character 10 indicates the calendar back, which is preferably made of heavy card-board or any other suitable material. The face of said calendar-back is divided in a suitable manner to provide a top lpanelror space 11 in which may be inscribed, in any suitable manner or in any desired arrangement presenting a decorative form, the name of the organization issuing or distributing the calendar; a longitudinally central panel or space 12 providing the last page 'beneath the calendar pad which is designed to vhave inscribed or suitably displayed and set forth therein the rules, regulations and general information relative to the organization issuing or distributing the calendar; and flanking each side of said central panel or space 12 are a series of longitudinally alined panels or spaces 13 in which any desired advertising matter may be displayed. Said calendar back is also provided at or adjacent to its upper end with a central perforation 14, engageable with ay supporting means for hanging up the calendar.
Suitably secured to said calendar back 10, so as to be registered or alined with the central panel or space 12 and to extend over the major part of the same except for an exposed marginal portion adjacent to its lower end, is a calendar pad 15. Said calendar pad 15 is secured to the back 10 by staples or wirestitching 16 passed through the upper end portion of the former, or by any other fastening means found convenient. Said calendar pad comprises twelve leaves 17, one Afor each month, all preferably attached to the pad body 15 by perforated connection means 18, whereby each leaf may be readily torn away from the pad body when it is desired so to do. Each successive calendar leaf is longer than the leaf overlying the same, whereby the lower end or bottom marginal portion 17 of said underlying leaves is constantly visible. The thus constantly visible or exposed portions 17 of the leaves provide a notice space in which may be inscribed a notice or legend referring the users attention to the last page or underlying space formed by the panel or space l2 wherein the rules, regulations and general information are displayed concerning which it is desired to inform the user and by arousing curiosity induce the user to uncover. To further carry out the latter purpose, said panel or sgace l2 is longer than the last leaf cf the calendar pad so that an exposed or constantly visible lower marginal space l2 is provided to contain a notice or legend advising the user that said panel or space l2 is the last page referred to by the notices or legends of the calendar leaves 17. Each calendar leaf has inscribed thereon. the monthly calendar 19, and also a space 20 in which notice may be given of the regular meetings of the organization issuing` or distributing the calendar. Since by reason of the successively greater length of the underlying leaves of the calendar, each of said underlying leaves possesses additional space 21 upon which may be inscribed or -set forth more detailed notices of special events of the year anticik pated by the organization issuing or distributing the calendar, or said space may be devoted to any other matter it is the desire of the organization to keep before the attention of its members or users of the calendar.
From the above description of the nevel calendar arrangement it will be apparent that the same provides a novel structural arrangement and combination of parts peculiarly adapted to serve the purposes already above referred to, and adapted to arouse the users curiosity and thus inspire investigation of the matter it is desired to keep before their attention.
I am aware that some changes or variations in the above described calendar structure may be made without departing from the scope of this invention; hence, l do not limit myself to the exact arrangements and combi nations o-f the several devices and parts as described in the foregoing specification, nor do I limit myself to the exact details of the construction of the same as illustrated in 'the accompanying drawings.
I claim l. A combined calendar and bulletin, comprising a calendar back having a bulletin space devoted to the display of information, a calendar pad attached to said back so as to normally cover and conceal the information displayed in the bulletin space of said calendar back, the successive leaves of said calendar pad being of progressively increased length to constantly expose the lower marginal portion of each leaf, said exposed lower marginal portion of each leaf having displayed thereon a notice referring the users attention to the concealed bulletin space of said calendar back, and said calendar pad being of less length than said bulletin space to provide a constantly exposed portion at the bottom of the latter having displayed thereon a notice identifying the bulletin space.
Q. A combined calendar and bulletin, comprising a calendar back having its face di vided into spaces to provide a name space at the upper end of said back, a central longitudinal bulletin space, and longitudinally alined advertising spaces flanking each side of said bulletin space; a calendar pad attached to said back so as to normally cover and conceal the information displayed in the bulletin space of said calendar back, the successive leaves of said calendar pad being of progressively increased length to constantly expose the lower marginal portion of each leaf, said exposed lower marginal portion of each leaf having displayed thereon a notice referring the users attention to the concealed bulletin space of said calendar back whereby said notice is reiterated and strongly impressed upon the readers attention, and said calendar pad being of less length than said bulletin to provide a constantly exposed portion at the bottom of the latter having displayed thereon a notice identifying the bulletin space.
In testimony, that l claim the invention set forth above I have hereunto set my hand this 21st day of February, 1923.
ISAAC LEBOVVITZ.
