Description

4(No'Mod'el.) v
I 'W. A. WELTON.
: Lifting-Jack. and Stump-Puller.
No. 227,335. v Patenced May 4,1880.
WI'IINESS s f; y i V/ #mzgmo ATTORNEYS! IJNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
\ WILLIAM W. WELTON, OF VINCENNES, INDIANA.
LlFTlNG-JACK AND STUMP-PULLER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 227,335, dated May 4, 1880.
Application filed March 20, 1880.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM W. WELTON, of Vincennes, in the county of Knox and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lifting-Jacks and Stump- Pullers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawings is a representation of a front View of my device, and Fig. 2 is an edge view of the same.
My invention relates to a lifting jack or stump-extractor; and it consists in the features of construction and combination hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings hereto annexed, A A designate standards upon runners B B. These standards support the principal parts of the machine, and the runners have eyebolts G, to which traces or any gear of a harnessed horse may be connected, so as to draw the device along a field.
The standards A support two bars, D, between which are pivoted a series of bars, E E and F F. The bars E carry pivoted straps G, which are pivoted to blocks H. These bars E, straps G, and blocks H embrace the sliding bar I, to the lower end of which the levers K are pivoted. The center bars, F F, are like- (No model.)
wise provided with straps L, which are pivoted to said bars and to blocks M. These bars, straps, and blocks embrace sliding bars P, which are connected at their top ends by a band, B, and which are pivoted at their lower ends between two plates, S S. The levers are also pivoted between these plates, and the lifting-hooks T are also connected with them.
To the hooks T a chain will be secured, and this chain will be passed around the stump to be extracted or the weight to be raised.
To operate this device the operator or operators will work the levers alternately. ,As the lex'ers are depressed the straps will be brought to an inclined position, and hence the blocks andthe bars to which the straps are secured will bind upon the sliding bars, thereby forming fulcral bearings.
What I claim is- In a stump-puller having a series of vertically-sliding bars operated by levers, the combination, with the bars D D, of the bars E and F, straps G and L, blocks H and M, plates S S, and hooks, constructed and operating substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM VV. WELTON.
