4 Claims.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in envelopes and has for its primary object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, an article of this character comprising novel means for iirmly securing the ilap in closed position Without the necessity of licking or wetting.
Another very important object of the invention is to provide an envelope of the aforementioned character which, when closed, cannot be tampered with or reopened without detection.
Other objects of the invention are to provide an envelope of the character described which will be comparatively simple in construction, strong, durable, reliable in use and which may be manufactured at low cost.
All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a study of the following specication, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and wherein:
Figure 1 is a view in rear elevation of an envelope constructed in accordance with the present invention, showing the ap open, a portion of theV tissue paper sheet thereon being broken away.
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view, taken substantially on the line 2--2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view, showing the envelope closed.
Figure v4 is a fragmentary view in section, taken substantially on the line 4 4 of Figure 1.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, it will be seen that the embodiment of the invention which has been illustrated comprises an envelope which is designated generally by the reference numeral I, said envelope being of suitable paper. The envelope l includes a front 2 and a back 3. On the upper portion of the front 2 is an integral closure flap 4.
The upper portion of the back 3 of the envelope has formed therein a plurality of openings 5 of suitable shape and dimensions. cured on the inner side of the back 3, behind the openings 5, are strips or sheets of tacky cellulose paper or other suitable material 6. Mounted on certain of the marginal portions of the sheets 6 are strips of corrugated paper 'l which space said and are adhesvely secured to the back 3 of the A envelope.
Adhesively se- Mounted on the rear or inner side of the closure flap 4 of the envelope is a sheet 8 of tissue or other suitable absorbent, comparatively delicate paper. The marginal portions only of the tissue sheet 8 are adhesvely secured, as at 9, to the closure ap 4, the rest of said sheet 8 being free of said closure ap.
It is thought that the manner of using the envelope will be readily apparent from a consideration of the foregoing. Briefly, when the envelopes are packed, the tacky sheets or elements 6, being spaced from the openings 5 by the corrugated strips l, are prevented from contacting and sticking to the sheet 8 of the closure aps 4. However, when it is desired to close and seal the envelope, the ap 4 is swung to closed position and portions thereof are pressed through the openings 5 for engaging the tissue paper sheet 8 with the tacky sheets 6, to which said sheet 8 adheres. It will thus be seen that the envelope has been expeditiously closed without the necessity of wetting the flap. Should the flap 4 be openedthe portions of the comparatively fragile or delicate tissue paper sheet 8 which are in contact with the tacky sheets 6 will adhere thereto and be torn away thereby rendering detection easy should the envelope again be closed.
It is believed that the many advantages of an envelope constructed in accordance with the present invention will be readily understood and although a preferred embodiment of the article is as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction and in the combination and'arrangement of parts may be resorted to which will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed is:
1. An envelope comprising a front and a back, said back having a plurality of openings therein, sheets of tacky material mounted on the inside of the back behind the openings, a closure flap on the front, and a sheet of comparatively delicate, absorbent material secured on the closure flap for swinging movement therewith and engageable with the tacky sheets through the openings for securing said flap in closed position, and resilient spacer elements interposed between said sheets of tacky material and said back in the regions of said openings yieldably spacing said tacky sheets from the openings.
2. An envelope comprising a front and a back, said back having a plurality of openings therein,
- sheets of tacky material mounted on the inside of the back behind the openings, a closure flap on the front, and a sheet of comparatively fragile,
absorbent material mounted on the closure flap and having its marginal portions only adhesively secured thereto, the second named sheet being engageable with the tacky sheets through the openings in the back of the envelope for adhesively securing the ap in closed position, and resilient spacer elements interposed between said sheets of tacky material and said back in the regions of said openings yieldably spacing said tacky sheets from the openings.
3. An envelope comprising a front andv a back, said back having a plurality of openings therein, sheets of tacky material mounted on the inside of the back behind the openings, strips of corrugated sheets through the openings for adhesively securing said ap in closed position.
4. An envelope of the character described comprising a front and a back, the upper portion of said back having a plurality of openings therein, sheets of tacky material adhesively secured on the inside of the back behind the openings, strips of corrugated paper interposed between the tacky sheets and the back for spacing said tacky sheets from the openings, a ap integral with the front, and a sheet of tissue paper having its marginal portions only secured to said flap, the rest of the tissue sheet being free of the flap, said tissue sheet being engageable With the tacky sheets through material mounted between certain of the marginal 1 the` openings for adhesively securing the flap in portions of the tacky sheets and the back for spacing said tacky sheets from the openings, and a flap on the front engageable withl the tacky closed position.
