Description

H. S. JOSSELYN.
Flier for Speeders.
No. 227,015. Patented April 27, I880.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY S. JOSSELYN, OF NEWTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
FLIER FOR SPEEDERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 227,015, dated April 27, 1880. Application filed February .1, 1880.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY S. J OSSELYN, of Newton, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Fliers for Speeders; and 1'. do hereby declare the same to be described in the following specification, and represented in the accompanying drawings, of which- Figures 1 and 2 are opposite side views, Fig. 3 an edge elevation, and Fig. 4 a longitudinal section, of a flier provided with my improvement or invention.
The flier, as shown, has two tubular necks, E K, connected by two tubular arms, II, each of such arms being bow-ed orbent twice between its connections with the necks. The socketed parts D D of the upper neck stand at an acute angle with each other. The presser F is arranged at the middle of one of the arms, and rests in an aperture, 0, made laterally in the arm. The shank G of the presser is arranged in the bore of the arm, and extends out of the arm through an opening, 0, in its outer side,
2 just below the lower bend of the arm and in line with the bore of the straight part of the arm between the two bends To the part of the shank which is out of the arm the pressercounterbalance H is fixed.- Directly over the presser F, and extending across the. bore of the arm, is a shoulder, P, that prevents the presser from rising up and clogging the yarn in its passage through the educt (Z of the arm.
I am aware that it is not new to make a speeder flier with but one neck and with tubular legs extending down therefrom, the presser of such a flier being at the lower end of one of the arms and having its shank extended up within the bore of the arm and from the lower end of such arm. This differs from my improved flier, in which the presser is arranged at or about the middle of the flieraud extends into one of the tubular arms laterally thereof, and has its shank arranged within the bore of the arm and projected out of the arm through one side thereof, at the lower bend of the arm, and, besides, there is in the arm a shoulder or stop to prevent the presser from rising.
WVhat, therefore, I claim as my invention is- The flier as provided with the two tubular necks and two tubular arms connecting them, and bent and arranged with the said necks, essentially as represented, and having in one of such arms a shoulder and a sliver-educt, and also an opening'to receive the presser, all arranged as shown, in combination with the presser extended into the bore of the arm and having its shank arranged in such bore and passing laterally out of such arm through a hole in one side thereol'and at the lower bend of the arm, there being applied to the said shank a counterbalance, and all being substantially as described.
HENRY S. JOSSELYN.
