This invention relates to fountain pen clips and the object of the invention is "to provide a simple and economical means'for securing and `retaining the mounting end portion of the ,clip

In` the construction and mounting of spring clips for'the caps of fountain pens many forms of construction have been employed, for the most part these mountings have been more or less complicated and further a secure or firm mounting of the clip has not been provided. It is the purpose of my invention 'to provide a simple form of clip mounting wherein the mounting end of the spring arm, forming the clip, is provided with an inwardly extending prong fashioned from the material of this mounting endv and into the bore of the cap to rmly and rigidly secure the clip .to the cap and'even to flex the mounting end ofthe cap so as to increase the tension or `rigidity of `this mounting. c f .A

secure anchorage of the clip to the cap. The plug 21 will have centrally thereof a fiat surface 3| to be engaged by the prong 32 similar in all respects to the prong 2| of the other iigures. At 33 is shown the aperture in the wall of the cap 24 for receiving the mounting plate 29 and prong 32. As with the construction shown in Fig. 1, the prong 32 pierces the closed end of the subtsantially thimble-shaped plug 21 in rmly retaining the clip against displacement.

One of the distinctive advantageous features in applicants structure resides in the fact that the entire clip is made from a strip of metal having limited Width throughout its length. This reduces the cost of producing the clip while at the same time a strong and durable clip structure is provided. Further the fact that the prong element is disposed entirely within peripheral edges of the mounting plate not only maintains the strength of this plate, but again limits the dimensions thereof and at the same time localizes the prong at a point substantially at the axis of the bore of the cap. It will of course be understood that the spring arm of the clip may be made in many forms and stylings to suit the desires of the manufacturer and/or the ultimate consumer, and the present shape and contour is simply illustrative of one of the many types and kinds of clips that can be employed.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

1. A clip for fountain pen caps, said clip comprising an elongated strip of material one end of which is fashioned to form an enlarged knob portion, the other end having an angularly extending mounting plate, said plate having a l prong member extending in the direction of the first named end of said strip and arranged inwardly of the free end of said plate.

2. A clip for fountain pen caps, said clip comprising an elongated strip of material one end of which is fashioned to form an enlarged knob portion, the other end having an angularly extending mounting plate, said plate having a prong member extending in the direction of the first named end of said strip and arranged inwardly of the free end of said plate, and said prong being substantially triangular in form and formed from the material of the plate inwardly of the peripheral edges thereof.v

3. A clip of the class described comprising an elongated strip of material channelled centrally thereof to form an elongated spring arm, one end of the strip being curled upon one side surface of the arm to form a gripper knob, the other end portion being extended substantially at right angles to the same side surface of the strip to form a mounting plate, and said mounting plate having within peripheral edges thereof a prong fashioned from the material of the plate and extending angularly to the plate in the direction of the first named end of said arm.

4. In combination with a fountain pen cap having an elongated bore extending to the closed end of the cap, the wall of the cap adjacent the closed end having a T-shaped aperture and a plug arranged in the bore adjacent the closed end thereof, of a clip comprising an elongated arm extending along the outer wall of the cap, the end of the clip adjacent the closed end of the cap having an angularly extending mounting plate extending into the bore of the cap adjacent said end wall, said plate having a prong projecting into the bore, and said prong being arranged inwardly of the free end of said mounting plate and substantially centrally of said bore, whereby in assembling the clip With the cap pressure feeding of the plug upon the surface of the mounting plate will cause the prong to pierce said plug in Xedly coupling the parts.

5. In combination with a fountain pen cap having an elongated bore extending to the closed end of the cap, the wall of the cap adjacent the closed end having a T-shaped aperture and a plug arranged in the bore adjacent the closed end thereof, of a clip comprising an elongated arm extending along the `outer wall of the cap, the end of the clip adjacent the closed end of the cap having an angularly extending mounting plate extending into the bore of the cap adjacent said end wall, said plate having a prong projecting into the bore, said prong being arranged inwardly of the free end of said mounting plate and substantially centrally of said bore, whereby in assembling the clip with the cap pressure feeding of the plug upon the surface of the mounting plate will cause the prong to pierce said plug in flxedly coupling the parts, and the arm adjacent said mounting plate havingv side flanges engaging the wall of the cap limiting inward movement of the mounting plate' 6. In combination with a fountain pen cap having an elongated bore extending to the closed end of the cap, the wall of the cap adjacent the closed end having a T-shaped aperture and a plug arranged in the bore adjacent the closed end thereof, of a clip comprising an elongated arm extending along the outer wall of the cap, the end of the clip adjacent the closed end of the cap having an angularly extending mounting plate extending into the bore of the cap adjacent said end wall, said plate having a prong projecting into the bore, said prong being arranged inwardly of the free end of said mounting plate and substantially centrally of said bore,

whereby in assembling the clip with the cap pressure feeding of the plug upon the surface ofthe mounting plate will cause the Prong to ,pierce said plug in ixedly coupling the parts, and the end wall of said cap and adjacent surface of the plug being of irregular contour whereby the mounting plate is off-set within the bore of the cap upon insertion of said plug.
