Description

Dec. 23, 1941. s. WULFSON CONTAINER FOR TOOTH PASTE Filed March 4, 1940 SAMUEL WULFSON INVENTOR.
AGEN T Patented Dec. 23, 1941 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE CONTAINER. FOR TOOTH PASTE SamuelWulfson, Milan, Italy Application March 4, 1940, Serial N 0. 322,231
Claims.
This invention relates to a holder for cakes of toothpaste, which is also adapted to accommodate a toothbrush.
Among the dentlfrices known on the market, there is'also solid toothpaste; its use, however, is rather limited because of the shortcomings of the holders in which it is usually sold to the public. Said holders consist of little plates on which cakes of solid toothpaste are simply laid. In order to use the toothpaste, it is necessary to hold with ones hands not only the holder but also the cake of toothpaste in order to prevent it from moving or falling out when the toothbrush is rubbed against it. Another serious shortcoming of said holders is that the foam and thespittle produced by the action of the toothbrush on the teeth, remain on the toothpaste. As rinsing of the toothpaste in the usual holders is practically impossible, the use of solid toothpaste is rendered unhygienic.
The present invention relates to a holder for toothpaste of entirely novel appearance and construction, wherein the tooth paste is firmly held in place thanks to the special construction of the holder.
The advantages of the novel construction are as follows:
1. The cake of toothpaste cannot fall out no matter what position the holder is placed in.
2. It is not necessary to hold the toothpaste with ones hand when rubbing the toothbrush against it.
3. The toothpaste can be easily rinsed and kept perfectly clean for further use.
4. The holder may be provided with a flange or a bottom plate; when turned upside down, said flange or plate may be used as a lid for a glass thus providing protection for the toothpaste as well as for a toothbrush inside the glass.
5. The holder may be furnished with an extension serving as a handle.
6. The said extension may be so shaped as to accommodate and protect a toothbrush.
7. The extension may be so shaped as to provide means for dismountably assembling the various parts of a sanitary tooth-cleaning case containing the holder, the toothpaste and the toothbrush.
The invention will be readily understood by reference to the following detailed description and drawing of preferred embodiments thereof.
In the drawing:
Fig. 1 is a view of an assembled tooth-cleaning case according to my invention, made of transparent material and comprisingthe toothpaste holder, a cake of toothpaste and a toothbrush.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section ofthe holder showing the means for holding the cake in place, and an extension carrying means for fastening the holder to the case.
Fig. 3 is a cross-section of a cake of toothpaste showing the means for holding it in the holder.
Fig. 4 is a View of a tooth-cleaning unit wherein the holder is provided with a handle which is adapt-ed to accommodate the toothbrush and to cooperate with a cap to form a complete toothcleaning kit.
Fig. 5 is a vertical section of a glass and a lid therefor, said lid consisting of a plate-holder unit placed upside down upon the glass.
Fig. 6 is a similar section taken at right angles to the showing of Fig. 5.
With reference to said figures, I is a cylindrical hollow member made of transparent or of any other suitable material, having a threaded end portion 2 for threadably. engaging a second similar cylindrical member 3 in order to form a case. The head of a toothbrush may be accommodated within the part 3, the handle of the toothbrush extending into member I.
4 is a holder for a cake of toothpaste having a semicylindrical shape and being open at the diametral plane thereof and at one end thereof. Said holder is provided with a wall or partition 5, an extension or handle 6, and a terminal threaded ring 1 adapted to engage the threaded end portion of member 3.
8 and 9 are moldings provided on the inner surface of holder 4 for holding a cake of toothpaste. M is the cake having moldings or grooves H adapted to engage moldings 8 and 9.
In Fig. 4, I2 is a cylindrical hollow member or cap cooperating with handle M, which is integral with pasteholder l3, to form a tooth-cleaning kit. Holder I3 is adapted to be inserted into cap I 2.
In Figs. 5 and 6, I 5 is a plate integral with or fastened to pasteholder ll. Said holder is provided with wall or partition 5 and moldings 8 and 9 on the inner surface thereof to hold the cake of toothpaste. Plate l5 has a handle I 6 and a slot l9 providing a passage for the handle of a toothbrush 20 which is contained in a glass 2|. Plate I5 is placed onto the glass and is held in place by means of flange l 8.
It will easily be seen that moldings 8 and 9 of holder 4 (Fig. 1) or of holder I! (Fig. 5) firmly engage corresponding moldings ll provided in the cake of toothpaste, and prevent the latter from falling out or from moving when the toothbrush is rubbed against the cake. Nor will the cake fall out in any position whatever of the holder, therefore making it possible to use the holder as a lid for a glass. The brush as well as the cake of toothpaste may be changed at any time, but the holder and the various parts of the case may be used until they are accidentally destroyed. To change the cake of toothpaste, it is sufficient to push into the holder a new cake.
While I have described a preferred embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that many changes may be made in the form and the arrangement of the various parts without departing from the spirit of the invention or exceeding the scope of the claims.
What I claim is:
1. A holder for a cake of toothpaste, having an opening for the introduction of the cake and a mouth positioned on a plane substantially perpendicular to said opening, said holder being of decreasing width from said mouth to the bottom of the holder and having suitable moldings on the concave surface thereof for holding the cake in place.
2. A holder according to claim 1, wherein the moldings for holding the cake in place comprise protruding ribs longitudinally positioned.
3. A holder for a cake of toothpaste, having semicylindrical shape, being open at the diametral plane thereof and at one end thereof, said holder being provided with suitable moldings on the inner surface thereof for holding the cake in place.
4. A holder for a cake of toothpaste, having an opening for the introduction of the cake and a mouth positioned on a plane substantially perpendicular to said opening, said holder having suitable moldings on the inner surface thereof for holding the cake in place, one end of said holder being extended to provide suitable means for securing said holder to the interior of a tooth brush case.
5. In combination, a holder according to claim 4, and a case adapted to receive said holder and a tooth brush.
6. In combination with a holder according to claim 1, a cake of toothpaste shaped in a manner to engage the inner surface of said holder and provided with moldings adapted to engage the moldings of the concave surface of said holder whereby the cake is held in place.
7. In combination with a holder according to claim 4 and a case adapted to receive said holder and a tooth brush, a cake of toothpaste shaped in a manner to engage the inner surface of said holder and provided with moldings adapted to engage the moldings of the concave surface of said holder whereby the cake is held in place.
8. A holder according to claim 1, having an extension suited to be used as a handle for using said holder.
9. A holder for a cake of toothpaste having an opening for the introduction of the cake and a mouth positioned on a plane substantially perpendicular to said opening, said holder being of decreasing width from said mouth to the bottom of the holder and having suitable moldings on the concave surface thereof for holding the cake in place, said holder being provided with a handle for holding the same and with a circular flange fastened to the bottom of the holder.
10. As an article of manufacture, the combination of a holder for a cake of toothpaste having an opening for the introduction of the cake and a mouth for the use of the same positioned on a plane substantially perpendicular to said opening, said holder having suitable moldings on the concave surface thereof for holding the cake in place; a connecting member fastened to one end of said holder and provided With a screw thread; and a cylindrical case adapted to enclose said holder and said connecting member and a tooth brush, said case comprising a body and a cap provided each with a screw thread to threadably engage each other and said connecting member.
