PHARMACEUTICAL KIT Feb. 20, 1951 Filed April 8, 1946 INVENTOR. "8-9' /5 Kare.
Patented Feb. 20, 1951 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2,542,397 PHARMACEUTICAL KIT James A. Core, Detroit, Mich. Application April 8, 1946, Serial No. 660,555 1 Claim. (01. 206-47) This invention relates to pharmaceutical kits and particularly to a kit having therein a bottle containing a solution and a compartment for pads by which the solution is applied.
The present invention embodies a kit having partitions therein formingcompartments in one of which a bottle containing a solution, such as mouth wash or the like, is disposed. In one or more of the compartments a plurality of small pads are packed in a manner so that they can be removed one at a time. A pad may be saturated with the solution in the bottle and employed for cleansing the teeth, a wound and the like. The kit may be provided with additional compartments in which tooth paste, dental floss, tooth picks, swabs and the like may be stored. The kit is preferably made of a size to be carried in a purse or overnight bag and maybe sufiiciently ornamental to enhance the appearance of a dressing table when placed thereon.
In one form of the kit herein illustrated, a base is employed having a plurality of upstanding partitions providing compartments which are enclosed by a cylindrical wall having apertures. A cover having an aperture through the center encompasses the wall and receives the neck of a bottle disposed in the central compartment. A removable stopper of the bottle for retaining the cover in position is threaded or otherwise secured to the neck. The cover is rotatable and provided with an opening by which the openings in the wall to the different compartments are made accessible for the removal of the contents. The wall has sufiicient blank area between the openings to have all of the compartments closed when the aperture of the cover is placed opposite to a closed wall portion.
The container may be in the form of a rectangular box divided by partitions to provide a compartment for the bottle, as well as one or more compartments for the plurality of the pads. The pads preferably are of small dimension, being approximately one inch square or in diameter and approximately one-eighth to one-quarter of an inch thick.
Accordingly, the main objects of the invention are: to provide a pharmaceutical kit with a compartment for a bottle containing a solution and an adjacent compartment in which a plurality of small pads are retained which are enclosed by an adjustable cover; to provide a kit having a base portion divided by upstanding partitions forming compartments which are enclosed by a cylindrical cover having an opening through which certain of the compartments are made accessible; to provide a pharmaceutical kit having a base provided iii! with upstanding partitions forming compartments, the central one of which removably supports a bottle having a neck projecting through the top of a cover element which encloses the compartments and which is retained in position by a cap secured to the neck of the bottle; and, in general, to provide a pharmaceutical kit which is simple in construction and economical of manufacture.
Other objects and features of novelty of the invention will be specifically pointed out or will become apparent when referring, for a better understanding of the invention, to the following description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, wherein:
Figure l is a view in elevation of a pharmaceutical kit embodying features of this invention;
Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the kit illustrated in Fig. 1, taken on the line 2-2 thereof;
3 is a sectional view of the kit illustrated in Fig. 2, taken on the line 3-3 thereof;
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a kit, similar to that illustrated in Fig. 1, showing another form thereof, and
5 is a sectional view of the structure illustrated in Fig. =1. t ken on the line 55 thereof.
Referring to Figs. 1 to 3, a kit l is illustrated comprising a base 2 having a pair of parallel partitions 3 and 4 extending upwardly and spaced equidistant from the center of the base. A partition 5 is joined to the partition 3, forming two compartments 6 and i. A pair of partitions 8 and 9 is joined to the partition 4 forming the compartments In, H and 52. A cylindrical wall I3 extends upwardly from the base 2, engaging the ends of the partitions 3, 4, 5, 8 and 9. The compartments 6, 1 and i I have openings I4 provided in the wall l3 through which the contents of the compartments may be removed.
A cover l5 has a cylindrical wall I 6 and top wall H, the former having a rectangular opening I8 and the latter having a central opening [9. Suitable embossments 20 may be provided on the cover I 5 and on the base for the purpose of ornamentation. Between the walls 3 and 4, a bottle 2| is removably supported, having a neck 22 which projects through the aperture IS in the top wall I! of the cover l5. A cap 23 is securable to the neck 22 by suitable means, herein illustrated by a thread, for retaining the cover on the base. The base may be provided with an annular slot 24 in which the end of the cover 15 projects to guide the cover and maintain it aligned with the cylindrical wall I 3 enclosing the compartments. It is to be understood that any suitable attaching means for the cap 23 and the neck of the bottle 22 may be employed and that the thread herein illustrated is not to be considered limiting.
It will be noted particularly from Fig. 2, that the compartment II is provided with a plurality of pads 25 which are of small dimension, herein illustrated as being approximately one inch square and folded once upon itself to fit into the compartment l I. The solution in the bottle may be employed on a pad for applying medication to wounds, mouth wash to the teeth and the like. Other of the compartments are illustrated as containing dental floss 26, a tooth brush 2 1 having a short handle, and a small tube of tooth paste 28. Tooth picks 29 may be placed in the compartment l while swabs 30 may be carried in the compartment 12. The container may be of small dimension, approximately that illustrated, so as to be readily'carried in the hand-bag or overnight case and is ornamental so that it may be placed upon a dresser, dressing table and the like.
By rotating the cover to have the aperture l8 aligned with the aperture [4, the compartments 6, T and l I are accessible through the wall of the cover. When the compartments l0 and I2 are to be made accessible, the cap 23 is removed and the cover lifted from the cylindrical wall i3, exposing the top of the compartments. When the cover is removed, the bottle 2| may be removed to be refilled or replaced.
When the aperture I8 is rotated into a position to be opposite to the wall [3, all of the compartments 6, I and II are closed by the cover l5. The walls may be provided with projecting ribs 39 which engage the edges of the aperture [8 to thereby retain the cover 15 from rotating. When a slight effort in rotation is applied to the cover 15, the edges of the aperture slide over the ribs 39 to permit the cover to be rotated to have ,the aperture placed opposite to any one of the openings I4 in the wall [3. When the cap 23 is provided with a thread, the amount of thread within the cap is limited so that the end of the cap does not engage the top of the cover l5 with any appreciable force which otherwise would cause the cap to rotate and either tighten onto the cover or be unscrewed from the neck of the bottle when the cover is rotated. v
Referring to Figs. 4 and 5, a further form of the invention is illustrated, that wherein a square or rectangular box 3! of conventional form is provided, having partitions 32 and 33 forming a compartment 34 for receiving a bottle 35, and compartments 36 and 31 for receiving the collection of pads 25. A lid 38 is hinged to one edge of the box by which the bottle and the pads are enclosed. In either of the forms of kit illustrated, a bottle is provided with a collection of small pads for use with the solution which may be supplied. Various solutions may be supplied with the bottle for use with the pads which provide sanitary applicators for the solution.
What is claimed is:
'A pharmaceutical kit having a base, a container having a cylindrical wall extending upwardly from said base, a pair of spaced partitions within said wall disposed parallel and equidistant to a diameter thereof, additional partitions ex tending from said first partitions to said wall forming marginal compartments, a bottle frictionally supported between said parallel p-artitions and having a neck projecting above said cylindrical wall on the axis thereof, a cylindrical cover having a top portion containing a central aperture through which the neck of the bottle extends when the cover projects downwardly over said cylindrical wall, and a cap securable to said neck for retaining said cover in position, said base having in the upper surface thereof an annular groove for receiving the bottom edge of said cylindrical cover, said cover and wall. having openings which move into alignment when the cover is revolved in said groove for exposing the contents of one or more of said marginal coinpartments.
