1 Claim.

This invention relates to collar clips, and its general object is to provide a clip for holding the collar of a shirt of the folding collar attached type, flat and parallel to the body of a folded shirt to present a neat appearance for displaypurposes, and to allow the shirts to be packed one upon the other in close association to take up minimum space in storage.

Another object of the invention is to provide a clip formed from a single strand of spring wire to include companion clamping jaws for association with a folded shirt to hold the collar flat and taut to prevent wrinkling thereof.

A further object is to provide a clip of the character set forth, that is simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, easy to apply and. remove with respect to a shirt, and extremely efiicient in use and service.

With the above and other objects in view the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed, it being understood that various modifications may be resorted to within the scope of the appended claim without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.

In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:

Figure 1 is a front elevation of the invention shown in applied position on a folded shirt.

Figure 2 is a cross sectional view taken on the line 2--2 of Figure 1.

Figure 3 is an end elevation of the device.

Figure 4 is a perspective view of the device.

Referring to the drawing in detail, it will be noted as best shown in Figure 4 that my clip which is broadly indicated by the numeral I2 is formed from a single strand of spring wire to provide a pair of inverted elongated substantially U-shaped companion clamping jaws. Each jaw includes relatively short arm portions I3 and a relatively long bight portion M, the arm portions extending at a slight outward inclination from the long portion, as best shown in Figure 1, and the short portions are connected at their outer ends by loops 13' for connecting the jaws together for movement toward and away from each other, as will be apparent.

It will be noted as best shown in Figure 3', that the short portions are disposed in close proximity and are normally inclined toward each other from the loop thereof to the long portions for disposing the latter in close parallel relation to each other, so that the jaws will be relatively spaced at all times, as clearly shown in Figure 4.

In applying the clip to a shirt of the collar attached type, as shown, the rear yoke portion of said shirt is raised for disposal in overlapped relation to the rear face of the rear portion of the collar to provide a fold section forming a pocket postjacent the collar, and with the collar and said fold section disposed in flatwise relation across the shirt, as shown in Figure 2. One of the jaws is inserted in the pocket with the long portion thereof seated in the fold of the fold section and the other jaw is arranged between the inner faces of the inner portions of the collar for disposing the front portion l5 of the fold section and both of the rear portions l8 and I! of the collar between the jaws, as likewise shown in Figure 2, so as to maintain the collar in connected relation with the fold section, as well as fiat and taut, to prevent wrinkling thereof, as will be apparent upon inspection of Figure 1.

From the foregoing and the disclosure of the drawing, it will be seen that by the use of my clips, the shirts can be packed one upon the other in close association, so as to take up minimum space in storage, and that the clip prevents sagging of the collar, to provide a neat appearance when the shirt is displayed.

It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.

It is to be understood that changes may .be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.

What is claimed is:

In combination with a shirt of the folding collar attached type wherein the rear yoke portion of said shirt is raised for disposal in overlapped relation to the rear face of the rear portion of the collar to provide a fold section forming a pocket postjacent the collar and with the collar and said fold section disposed in flatwise relation across the shirt, a clip formed from a single strand of spring wire to provide a pair of inverted elongated substantially U-shaped companion clamping jaws, each jaw including a relatively long straight bight portion and relatively short arm portions extending at a slight outward inclination from the long portion, the short portions of one jaw being connected to the short portions of the other jaw by loops at the outer ends of the short portions, the adjacent short portions being disposed in close proximity and normally inclined toward each other from the loop thereof to the long portions for disposing the latter in close spaced parallel relation to each other, one of said jaws being arranged in said pocket with the long portion thereof seated in the fold of said fold section and the other jaw being arranged between theinner portions of the collar to maintain the collar in clamped engagement with the fold section and in said flatwise relation.
