. SfPf/f/v L. 345000K tgig MMM/mm sleeve C should be moved inwardly until lthe shoulder c is brought into steam-tight contact with the valve-seat a2. This end is accomplished by slacking off the nuts a, which bear beneath the lugs c5, and screwing down the nuts a7 above said lugs.
By bringing the valve-seat a2 and sleeve C into contact, as above described, andas shown in Fig. 2, a continuous pipe is formed, through which the steam may ow without entering the chamber of the box A. When the junctionbox is to be used as a service-box for feeding the lateral pipes, thesleeve G should be retracted, as shown in Fig. 1, to leave the space required for the admission of steam into the chamber of the box A, from whence the steam passes into the lateral pipes E.
.By means of the nuts o6 and ci" the position ot' the sleeve C can be accurately adjusted at any point required for regulating the volume of steam discharged from between the valve- Seat a2 and shoulder c'.
I claim as my invention-d '4 l. The co1nbination,\vith the box A, adapted to receive the fixed end b of a main or pipe, and provided with a stuiiing-box, a3, as herein described, of the adjustable sleeve (l/,tted to Y receive the free end d of a main or pipe, said sleeve being arranged to adjust from the eX- terior of the box A, and adapted to be operated at pleasure either as a governing-valve or as a pipe for connecting continuously the sections ofthe mains, as herein specified.
2. The combination, with the box A, pro vided with a valve-seat, co2, and stuffing-box a?, of theA adjustable sleeve G, provided with the shoulder o and stuffing-box c3, all construc-ted and ,arranged to operate essentially as herein specified.
