The operation of my device is obvious, and its especial advantages of nicety of adjustment and means for taking up wear will commend it to those accustomed to use valves for high pressures.
I am aware that valves have been made with threaded stems and nuts thereon held against rotation and am familiar with the patents issued to H. E. Keyes July 30, 1895, for such devices; but my invention possesses features of novelty and advantage not heretofore introduced in devices of this character. It will be observed that the adjustments of the nuts can be easily and. quickly accomplished without entirely removing any of the parts, such adjustment being made by means of the outer inclosing and embracing portions of the valve-case, as has been described, and such features of advantage I consider important and valuable.
A further modification of my invention, employing the constructions of Figs. 1 and 5, respectively,above and below the plug, where? by it would be limited as to its throw in either direction, can be made with advantage, and such a construction is contemplated by me and is within the scope of the presentinvention.
Having described my invention, what I claim is 1. A valve having achambered tapered plug, provided with a valve-stem and an externally-threaded extended teat on the op-] adjustable follower mounted in the surrounding holder and forming a backing for the nut, substantially as set forth.
3. A valve having a chambered tapered plug, provided with a valve-stem and an externally-threaded extended teat on the opposite end of the plug, a polygonal nut engaging the threaded teat, a surrounding holder for the nut to prevent its rotation, and a follower, screw-threaded into an extension of the surrounding holder and forming a backing for the nut, substantially as set forth.
