1 Claim.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in garment hangers.
An object of the invention is to provide a garment hanger which may be used to hang garments on a clothes line when it is desired to air them.
Another object is to provide a garment hanger which, when supported on a clothes line, will be held against lateral movement on the line thereby preventing the contact of the supported garment with clothes line props or other obstacles and prevent soiling of the garments.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a study of the following detail description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and wherein:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of the invention.
Figure 2 is an enlarged transverse sectional View taken substantially on the lin 2-2 of Figure 1, and v Figure 3 is a perspective view of the clothes line clamping members.
Referring now to the drawing, in detail, it will be seen that the reference numeral 5 designates a length of wire rod bent intermediat its end 7 portions to form a substantially elongated loop.
The ends of the wire rod 5 pass through openings 6 and 1 in a plate 8 and are swaged to secure the same in the openings as shown at 9 in Figure 2 of the drawing.
The plate 8 is elongated and is constructed of metal or other suitable material and has an opening It at its top end portion and a square opening intermediate the end portions thereof.
A clothes line clamping member |2 is constructed of metal or other suitable material, and has a groove |3 intermediate its ends, and an opening l4 through its top end portion whil its bottom end portion is bent outwardly as at [5. This clamping member I2 is releasably secured to the plate 8 through the medium of a bolt l6 which passes through the openings H and I4,
when the same are in alignment, and is held in clamping position by a wing nut I! which is engaged on the bolt l6.
A length of wire rod is bent to form a hook l3 having a shank l9 which is swingably secured to the plate 8 through the medium of an eye 20 formed thereon.
When the device is used to support garments in a closet or the like the garments are draped over the looped portion and the hook I8 is used as with conventional coat hangers, but when it is desired to air the garments th device is supported on a clothes line 2| with the line 2| passing between the plate 8 and member l2 and seated in the groove 3. With the device supported on the line 2| in this manner the same will stay in fixed position on the line. The wing nut I1 is unscrewed from the bolt IE to place the members l2 and 8 about th line 2| and then screwed on again to force the members I2 and 8 together about the line 2|.
Although I have shown and described herein a preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be definitely understood that I do not desire to limit the application of the invention thereto, and any chang or changes may be made in the materials and in the structure and arrangement of the parts, within the spirit of the invention as claimed.'
What is claimed is:
In a device of the character described a garment hanger including an elongated plate having laterally spaced openings in its bottom end portion and further having vertically spaced openings in its top end portion, a substantially oval looped wire rod member having its end portions bent and extending through the laterally spaced openings in the bottom end portion of said plate with heads on the ends of said wire rod, a grooved member having an opening therein mounted on one side of said plate, a headed screw threaded member extending through one of said vertically spaced openings in the top end portion of said plate and through the opening in said grooved member with the same depending from said screw threaded member, and a winged nut engaged on said screw threaded member to releasably hold said grooved member in clamping position against said elongated plate to clamp the plate to a clothesline.
