l UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICEa RICHARD YOUNG, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
COMBINED CREASING AND E-MBOSSING TOOL.l
SPECIFICATION forming part of Lett-.ers Patent No. 224,759, dated February I7, 1880.
' Application filed September 15, 1879.
t To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RICHARD YOUNG, of
i ,Brooklyln in the county'of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Combined Creasing and Embossing Tool, of which the fol-lowing is a specification.
My invention relates to tools for ornamenting and iinishing `the surface of leather; and it consists in a tool combining a creaser or marker, such as is used forlining, and a roller i for embossing andA printing, the creaser being stationary, while the roller is fitted toyrevolve,
`so that in use a line or crease and a printed impression are produced at the same time. The tool is used in connection with a drum,
,i handjigger, or other machine of usual character for inishing leather.
.head of the machine.
The improved tool is shown in theaccompa nying drawings, wherein Figure lis a side elevation of the tool, and Fig. 2 a longitudinal section on line w x of Fig. 1.
Similar letters ot' reference indicate corresponding parts.
i A is a plate constituting the shank of the tool, and adapted for attachment in the tool- Near the outer end of t shank A a projecting rib, a, is formed at one roller tits closely in the mortise, so that it can have no sidewise movement on the pin d.
The creaser or liner e is attached rigidly in a slot or mortise that is made for it in the end of shank A adjacent to roller c, and extends the full width of the shank, its ends being rounded, as shown. of e is flush with the periphery of roller c, so that they both will bear upon the surface to be ornamented. i In use, the tool being pressed upon the leather and moved in the direction for rotating roller c, the creaser e will form a straight line or crease, while at the same time the roller c will emboss the surface, in a line parallel to the crease, with the pattern that is upon the periphery of the roller. The leather or tool being fed sidewise a suitable distance between each movement of the tool, a series of' alternate embossed and creased lines will be formed, giving a highly-ornamental finish to the leather. Io change the roller c for one of a dii'e-rent pattern, screws b are to be taken out, which permits removal of plate b with the roller.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The embossing-roller c and rigid creaser e, combined together in the shank A, substantially as and for the purposes set forth. i
n RICHARD YOUNG. Witnesses C. SEDGWIGK, GEO. D. WALKER.
