My invention relates to a new and improved fur mufiler.

One of the objects of my invention is to provide a fur mufller whose size can be readily adjusted.

Another object of the invention is to provide a muffler having two separated fur facings on its fair side, and having separable fastener means located on its fair side between said fur facings, and also having cooperating fastener means on the reverse side of the muffler, so there is 10 contact between the fur facing means in the zone in which the separable fasteners are connected to each other.

Another object of the invention is to provide an article which can be manufactured simply and at low cost.

Other objects of my invention will be set forth in the following description and drawing which illustrate certain preferred embodiments, it being understood that the above statement of the objects of my invention is intended to generally explain the same without limiting it in any manner.

Fig. 1 is a top plan view of the improved device, one end thereof being turned upwardly so as to show the first set of the separable fasteners at the base of the muiiler, at said upturned end. This upturned end may be designated as the top end or outer end of the muffler,

since it overlies the other end of the muffler when it is worn.

Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view of the muffler with the inner end thereof turned over, so as to show the second set of separable fasteners.

Fig. 3 is a top plan view showing the parts of the muffler in operative position. In this view the representation of a part of the main fur facing has been omitted, in order to show the other parts more clearly.

Fig. 4 is a sectional view on the line il of Fig. 1.

Fig. 5 is a sectional view on the line -5-5 of Fig. 1.

The muffler comprises a fabric base which can be made of one or more layers of suitable material. In the particular embodiment the muffler has a rear face layer II which is made of silk or other suitable material, an intermediate fabric layer f2 which is made of coarse muslin or canvas, and an adjacent layer It which is made of any suitable padding material.

The muffler also comprises spaced facings F and F, which are made of any suitable fur. The main fur-facing F extends to the outer end of the muffler. At its other end the main furfacing F is spaced from the edge of the inner end of the muffler. The second fur-facing F extends to the edge of the inner end of the muffler. A fabric facing I5, which is made of silk or other suitable material, is provided in the space between the main fur-facing F and the supplemental fur-facing F. These fur facings have respective bases Ill and flla. At the outer end of the muffler, the rear facing fl is provided with a first set of separable fasteners, such as the snap fastener heads H. The member i5 is provided with supplementary fastener sockets it.

The assembly between the parts can be greatly varied. The parts are connected by stitches l8 which are invisible at the fair side of the muffler.

The device is used as indicated in Fig. 3 and it is clear that the sets of separable fasteners f6 and fl may be connected to each other so as to vary the length of the muffler. For example, referring to Fig. 3, if the three heads fl are inserted into the respective sockets N5, the muffler is of maximum length. If the righthand head fl is inserted into the left-hand socket it, the muffler is of minimum length.

As shown in Fig. 3, the width of the muffler is equal to the width of the space between the adjacent ends of the members F and F. When the muffler is closed, the outer end thereof crosses the space between the adjacent ends of the fur members F and F. There is therefore no contact between the fur parts of the mufiler when the same is worn, which is a decided advantage, in preventing the fraying or rubbing of the for hair.

Pile fabric resembling fur can be used instead of fur. Slide fasteners, hooks and eyes, buttons and buttonholes or other separable fastening means may be used instead of the indicated fasteners l6 and fl without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.

I have shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, but it is clear that numerous changes and omissions can be made without departing end of said muffler and which is spaced from the edge of th inner end of the muffler, the mufiler also having a supplemental fur-facing which is shorter than the main fur-facing, the supplemental fur-facing extending substantially to the edge of the inner end of the muffler, the fair side of the muffler having a space between the adjacent ends of said fur-facings, separable fastener means located in said space, cooperating fastener means located on the rear face of the mufiler.

A mufller having a main fur-facing which extends substantially to the edge of the outer end of said muffler and which is spaced from the edge of the inner end of the muffler, the muifier also having a supplemental fur-facing which is shorter than the main fur-facing, the supplemental fur-facing extending substantially to the edge of the inner end of the mufiler, the fair side of the mufiler having a space between the adjacent ends of said fur-facings, separable fastener means located in said space, cooperating fastener means located on the rear face of the mufller, said separable fastener means being adapted to adjustably connect the ends of the muffler to each other with one end of the mufller located in and crossing said space.

3. A muffler having fur-facings whose adjacent ends are spaced from each other, said fur-facings being located at the fair side of the mufiier, separable fastening means connected to the fair side of the muffler in the space between said adjacent ends, cooperating separable fastening means connected to the rear face of the muffler, the length of said space being at least substantially equal to the width of that part of the muffler which is located in said space when said separable fastening means and said cooperating fastening means are connected to each other, said mufiier having fabric facings at the rear face thereof and also in said space.
