In Germany August 19, 1937 2 Claims. (Cl. 100-48) This invention relates to a worm press adapted for the separation of viscous resinous substances from liquids of lower viscosity.
It is known to squeeze the liquid out of a solid moist substance by a Worm press by causing the moist substance to move forward within a perforated casing said casing having a worm as the pressing device. By means of the pressure the liquid is squeezed through the holes of the cylinder. The dried substance is discharged through an aperture or valve.
Hitherto it was, however, impossible to squeeze and separate from a pasty, resinous, viscous substance a liquid of lower viscosity, for instance, an aqueous salt solution, by squeezing it in a sieve casing since the pasty resinous substance simultaneously passes through the holes and therefore no separation of the two substances can take place. When using instead of sieves filter stones or filter layers rapid clogging of the filter material occurs.
In accordance with the present invention it has been established that it is possible to separate viscous, resinous substances from liquids of lower viscosity by passing the mixture through a worm press being constructed as follows:
The worm press consists of a casing which in' contradistinction to the hitherto used devices is not provided with sieves or analogous filtering means but with walls without perforations, said casing being provided with a feeding opening at the rear upper part into which the mixture to be separated is introduced; furthermore there is a discharge device which is preferably provided with a weighted valve, by which means the worm press can be used for various purposes. The said discharge device in front of the apparatus is to discharge the material of higher viscosity. The substance of lower viscosity is discharged by means of a discharge opening in the"'roar. l9wer part of the'casing. is rotatably arranged, the threads of the worm decreasing towards the front. as used here and in the appended claims, is intended to mean that the thread-volume and/or the pitch of the threads of the worm are decreasing towards the discharge device placed in the front portion of the casing. The shaft of the worm goes through the wall of the casing in the rear from where rotation is efifected. The inner wall of the casing is provided with longitudinal grooves. It is advantageous to provide the feeding opening for the mixture to be separated only between the first or second thread of the worm. In the accompanying drawing a worm press as hereinbefore described is illustrated by way of example.
The device consists of a casing a provided with longitudinal grooves a. In the front 12 where the squeezed, viscous material is discharged, it is closed by a weighted valve 0 for obtaining the desired pressure. .A worm d with decreasing threads presses the moist, pasty, resinous. viscoussubstance, which is introduced through the feeding opening e into the casing a; the liquid of lower viscosity is squeezed out, the squeezed pasty, resinous substance is discharged through valve 0, whereupon the liquid of lower viscosity is discharged in the rear in opposite direction to the conveying movement of the worm through pipe I.
To make sure that the liquid can safely run oil in the rear it is advantageous to install the worm press not straight but somewhat inclined back- I wards.
I claim:
1. A worm press consisting of a casing and a worm rotatably arranged therein, said casing being provided with feeding and discharge devices, one discharge device being arrangedat the rear lower portion of the casing, the feeding device being positioned at the upper portion of said casing a distance in front of aforesaid discharge device at least equal to the longitudinal distance between two adjacent threads and another discharge device provided with a weighted valve being arranged in the front portion of the casing, the inner wall of said casing being provided with -longitudinal grooves, the threads of said worm decreasing towards the last. mentioned discharge device.
