1 Claim.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in the general art of surgery and more particularly to obstetrical appliance which is intended for use by women during the labors of childbirth.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide a harness which does not interfere with the assistance of the physician attending the childbirth. 7
Another important object of the invention is to provide an appliance which is of simple construction and substantially fool-proof in use.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent to the reader of the following specification.
In the drawings- Figure 1 represents a top plan view.
Figure 2 is a side elevation.
Figure 3 is a side view of one of the handles.
Figure 4 is a top plan view of the foot section.
Figure 5 is an end elevational view showing the foot section.
Figure 6 is a section on the line 66 of Figure 4.
Figure 7 is a fragmentary enlarged detailed sectional view on the line 1-1 of Figure 5.
Referring to the drawings wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that numeral 5 represents an elongated sheet preferably of rubber or some other water-proof substance and this has the flap 6 slightly projecting from one end thereof and which may be a separate piece of material sewed to the sheet 5.
Numeral I generally refers to the foot section which as shown in Figure 6 consists of the elongated board 8 having the rubber covering 9, the edge portions of which are brought together at the lower portion of the board. A multiple fastener generally referred to by numeral I0 is located between the lower portion of the covering 9 of the board 8 and the flap 6 of the sheet 5. This multiple fastener III has the strip II which is attached to the lower portion of the covering 9 and also the strip l2 which is attached to the flap 6. Numeral [3 denotes the slidable connector for the strips l ll 2.
A pair of straps l4 and 15 are disposed longitudinally across the outer side of the foot section I and are held in place by staples l6 driven into the board 8 (see Figures 5 and '7) These straps extend over the sheet 5 and each has an extension I! connected by a buckle l8 to itself at one end and at its other end formed with the loop I9 for disposition through the eye 29 on the corresponding U-shaped handle 2|, these handles preferably being of rubber cover.
Obviously the patient places her feet against the rubber sheet covered board 9 and grips the handles 2| with her hands after the buckles l8 have been properly adjusted. Obviously, when the operation is over, the foot sections 1 can be readily disconnected by actuating the multiple fastener l0 and then subsequently the sheet 5 can be removed from under the patient.
While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invent-ion as claimed hereinafter.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
An obstetrical appliance comprising an elongated sheet, an upstanding foot board at one edge of the sheet, a covering for the boot board, said covering having a laterally disposed connecting portion, fastening means between the connecting portion and the edge of the sheet, upper and lower straps extending longitudinally of the board, guide means on the board for the straps, and handles connecting the adjacent ends of the upper and lower straps.
BESSIE M. JONES.
