Door-Hanger.
No.` 223,941. y Patented 1an. 27, 1880L ',.f 11 van Zar -V tion on line .'L.
OFFICE.
PATENT ALXANDER N. MONTEER, OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI.
DOOR-HANGER.
SPECIFICATION forming' part of Letters Patent No. 223,941, dated January 27, 1880.
Application filed October 14, 1879.
To all whom 'it may concern Be it known that I, ALEXANDER N. MoN- '.IEER, of Kansas City, Jackson county, Missouri, have invented an Improvement in Door- Hangings, of which the following is a specification.
The nature of this invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in devices particularly designed for hanging and carrying car-doors; and the invention consists in the peculiar construction, arrangement, and
combination of the various parts, all as more fully hereinafter set forth.r
In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective View of my improved hanger. Fig. 2 is asec- Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a moditication of my door-hanger, to be secured to lower edge of door. Fig. 4 is a secvtional view ofthe same.
In the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specilication, A represents a metallic hanger, which is secured to the upper edgeof a oar-door so that its tlange a. will ein brace the bar B, secured to the side ot' the car, as in the ordinarymanner. /Vithin the head of' this hanger l form a chilled recess, b, within which I place a metal case-hardened ball, t), the same being held in place by means of the band D, through the hole in which the ball protrudes, as shown in Fig. 2,' so that the ball may come in contact with the edge of the bar B, upon which it travels. The ends ofthis band D are secured in any convenient manner.
In Figs. 3 and 4 ofthe drawings, which are views of the modified Jform of my door-hanger,
weightis supported upon the ball C, which tends to neutralize the friction, and as it is loose in the recess, it revolves in all directions,
and consequently wears equally on all sides.
Should the hangings become loose, the balls are retained by the straps or bands and cannot 4 fall out.
It is not usual to use both of these devices Y upon a door, though it may be done, if desired.
What'I claim as my invention isl. In a door-hanger, the combination, with the metallic hanger A, having anged head a and recess b, of the ball C, held in place by the strap D, arranged substantially as described and shown.
2. 1n a door hanger, the combination, with the ball C, of the strap D, for retaining the ball in piace, substantially as described and shown.
y ALEXANDER N. MONTEER.
