This invention relates to e door lock and is more particularly concerned with a combined door lock and dovetail.
it. combination door lock end dovetoil is not now, see the patent to Strebereer, Potent No. 987, ilhl, i l/lurch 21, Wit. It is the object oi this invontlon to improve upon the seuerol type or combined door loci: and dovctuil shorui'lu this ldtreberser potent. More perticulorly the inven" tiou contemplates o. combined door loch und dovein which the bolt is retrocted trom without the door by moons of u push button end in which or simple orrengemeht is provided tor disconnecthis the push button from the bolt so that the door con be loclred either with or without o trey.
luthe drduducs:
l iiu. l is on inside i'regmentory view of e vehicle door with portions broken owey' showing the com blned door inch and dcveteil ussembled to the the door.
the 2 is c section along the line t--t oi his. 1 which also shows the combined lotch striker end dovetull soclret member adopted to be mounted upon the body lamb pillar.
hid. it is u section along the line ll-d of this. 1. his. t is o, rroumentery view portly in section looiruw, st the door loclr. pillur luce with port of the hillur broken owuy to show the position oi the door loch iu the door.
his. 5 is u rerticol section through the door loclr and door loch pillor to which the loch is ossembled telreu clone the line ii it oi i ls. d.
6 is u vcrtlcol section alone the line oi" the. ii.
his. "I? is or view similar to 6 showing the position or the retructor when the lotch bolt is projected Etl'lti the outside push button is effective to retract the bolt.
his. d is a view simllor to Fig. l showinr; in lull lines the position of the loclr ports when the outside push button is ineffective to retruct the bolt.
9 is to detail showing or the rollbztcir and shiltebie cohuector between the rollbuclr end push button.
Fig. id is o ireementory horizontal section through the door, outside door bundle ond push button.
Referring more porticulerly to the drawings there is shown u vehicle door i having a door loclr pillar t and at fixed outside door handle The lost is mounted on an angular frame t which is secured by screws it to the inner face of the door lock pillar t. The male or Wedge member b of the dovetail takes the form of u hollow metal stamping secured to the locir frame t by 9|, plurality oi integral lugs l which pass through openings in the loci: frdme sud ere clinched over as shown in ll.
The latch is provided with o. bolt member steps it behind which the bolt heed interensoces when the door is closed. the bolt d is held in projected position by the sprint; it, one end oi which is secured to the lotch home us ot it end the other end of which chooses the bolt us oi; it. A rubber bumper bloci; it is curried in the cues it which is secured to the latch heme, Flu. 8. The lower end or" the bolt t shuts the bumper it which iusures quiet operution oi" the lotch bolt.
The lotch bolt is retracted from inside the door by the drolt limit it. The latch bolt is re trocted lrom without the door by means of o push button in the term oi u plunger db which is slidubly mounted in the cylludrlcul opening iii in the tired door bundle t. The push button ht is normully held projected by the compression spring ti which is wise housed within the openlnr ii. in the retroction oi the latch bolt the push button operutes through d couuector end rollbuclr The connector is shiltubly mounted on the solvers piste db, 1. e, that pertion or the loch home t which is secured uloue the inside loco or the door loclr pillar it, by pin which posses through the elonceted openhiu lit in the connector The connector lil normally held epdinst the inner end or the push button it by the spring ill, one end or wluch its secured to his on the lower end oi the lever it end the other end of which shuts u luw turned out or the latch home 'li'he rollbocir il i comprises u lever plvotslly mounted on theselvere plots til oi the loci: home by pin ill. The rollbuclr lid is provided with u yolre portion which intereucoses the bolt When the shiltoble connector tilt is in lowered position so thut the pin Jill supports the connector til in the top portion of the elongated slot as shown in Flo. h, then it the push button th is pressed inwurdly it will set through lions e td on the connector to swing the connector lit clockwise, as viewed ho his. 6. its the connector swings clockwise, ilsuce M on the connector 2% coutucts rid-nee til on the rollback M and swings the rollbeclt counterclockwise thereby swinging the bolt to retracted position, as shown in full lines his. 5, to discusses the bolt from the keeper it.
When it is desired to loot; the loch, thut is, render the push buttoh til iueilective to retract the bolt it, then it is ohly necessury to shift the connector upwardly to the position shown in lid till
m to the position shown in Fig. 8, then the connector 23 is raised so that flange M is offset from flange 35 on the rollback. If the push button 20 is now pressed inwardly, then connector 23 is rotated clockwise until itabuts the stop lug 31 struck out of selvage plate i@,.but since flange 35 is oflset from flange 85 the rollback 24 is not rotated and the upper nortion of the connector 23. including the lug portion to, merely swings idly ig. 3, then the connector so is again lowered 1o operative position where operatively con ets rollback 2 with the push button to. e yoke is yieidably held in each of its positrons by the snap over-center spring fi l one end which is secured to the yoke as at 35 and the other end cl which is secured to the selvage plate 3% as at 06.
The connector plate 23 can be raised and lowered from without the door by a double armed pawl ill which is rotatehly supported on the inher end of the cylinder plug or which is journaled in the plug casing 39 of any conventional key controlled cylinder lock. The housing 9 is supported on the outer panel of the door. The pawl GT! straddles 2. lug it turned outwardly from the connector 23. Paw! M can be turned counterclockwise, as viewed in Fig. l, by means of a key irom without the door to raise the connector 23 and thereby render the push button at inefi'ective to retract the bolt and the pawl 4! can be turned clockwise, as viewed in Fig. l, to lower the connector 23 and thereby render the push button e fective to retract the bolt.
. it, while the door is closed, the rod 38 is lowered to raise the connector 28 to the position shown in Fl g. .9 so that the outside push button '20 is inefiectlve to retract the bolt, then the door cannot be opened without automatically returnthe connector 28 to lowered position. This is hieved lollows: When draft link it is reacted to swing bolt 8 and release the same item estriker l2, then rollback 2G is rotated counteralcckwlse, Fig. ii. At this time flange on em ti: contacts the upper end of the connector 28 depresses the same to lowered position, as in cheated in the dotted lines b.
Locking of the door without the use of a key maybe effected as follows: While the door is open the rod is lowered which through yoke so raises the connector to raised position, as shown in his.
6. The operator new presses inwardly on push button 2t which swings the connector 23 clock-- wise into contact with lug st, as shown in Fig. 9. While maintaining the push button pressed inwardly. the door is now closed. its the latch bolt rides over the striker i? it acts to swing the rollback 24 from the dotted line position shown in Fig. 9 to the full line position, but since the n flange 55 on the arm 62 is now offset from the upper end of the connector 23 the flange 55 swings idly by the, connector and the connector.
a3 remains in raised position; As soon as the door is closed the bolt 8 swings lDtO projected position and thereby again raises the rollback 24 to the dotted line position shown in Fig. 9 and the door lock is now locked, i. e., push button 20 is ineffective to retract the bolt.
The retractor is herein referred to as "set" when it is in lowered position, shown in full lines Fla. 6, so that the push button upon being depressed will act through the retractor and rollback to retract the bolt. The retractor is herein referred to as released when it is in raised position, as shown in full lines Fig. 8, so that depressing of the push button causes lug 34 to swing idly between arms t3 and 42 of the rollback and the push button is ineffective to retract the bolt.
I claim:
1. A door lock comprising a lock frame, a retractable bolt adapted to be retracted by a striker plate in the closing the door, a rollback for said bolt, a positive connection between the rollback and the bolt whereby retraction of the bolt by the striker plate swings the rollback, a push button, and a shiftable connector between said push button and said rollback shiftable into set and released positions, said shiftable connector when released lying in the path of movement of the rollback whereby in the closing of the door the latch bolt upon being retracted acts through the rollback to shift the retractor to set position and thereby render the push button efiective to retract the bolt.
