A preferred embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:

In the accompanying drawing 1 represents a wall of a building and 2 the floor thereof. The door illustrated is of the sectional `or multiple panel type and comprises a plurality of panels 3 which are connected by hinges 4 arranged on the inner sides thereof. One of the hinge members of each pair is provided with bearings 5 for the spindles 6 of the track engaging rollers 7. The track 8 is provided with mounting brackets 9 disposed at the sides of the door opening.
The lock of my invention comprises a housing designated generally by the numeral 10 and including a rear wall 1i, side walls 12, top wall 13 and front wall 14. The sides, rear and top wall may desirably be formed integrally of sheet metal as is illustrated. The rear wall 11 has a portion thereof struck forwardly to provide a bracket 15 which is disposed in spaced parallel relation to the top wall. v
The top wall and the bracket have aligned pairs of holes 16 therein. These pairs of holes are transversely spaced and adapted to receive the pivot 17 for the bolt 18. The bolt is provided with an eye 19 through which the pivot is disposed. The pairs of holes 16 are located so that the bolt may be mounted to project through either of the bolt openings Ztl in the side walls of the housing. These holes or openings 20 are substanj tially of greater width than the thickness of the bolt so the bolt may swing therein. The bolt is biased by the coil spring 21 which is arranged on the pivot and provided at one end with an arm 22 having a downwardly extending finger 23 engaging the front side of the bolt to bias the bolt rearwardly, the other end of the coil being provided with an arm 24 which engages the housing.

2,867,466 Patented `ian. 6, 1959 With this arrangement the bolt can be positioned to project through either opening to coact with the keeper 25 which may be mounted on the track 8 at either side of the door. The bolt is disengaged from the keeper by means of the release lever 26 which is pivoted at 27 ron the pivot 28 arranged through the hole 29 in the side wall and the aligned hole 30 in one of the pair of pivot ears 31. This permits the lever to be positioned to coact with the bolt in either of its adjusted positions. The upper end of the lever engages the rear side of the bolt.
The plate like actuating member 32 is disposed below the front wall of the housing and provided with ange like arms 33 mounted by the pivots 34 on the inner The upper ends of these arms are provided with portions 35, one of which engages the lower end of the bolt release lever. terminating above the lower end of the rear wall permits the actuating member to be swung outwardly as illustrated by dotted lines in Fig. 3. The arms 33 are slotted at 36 to receive the stops 37 limiting the swing of the actuating member. j
rThe actuating member is actuated by the push button 33 mounted to reciprocate in the socket 39 which is posi# tioned in a bore 40 in the door. The bore 40 isv located according to the mounting of the lock as a right or left hand lock and the rear wall 11 of the housing is provided with a pair of `holes 41 through one of which the stem 42 of the push button projects to .engage the actuating member 32.
A biasing spring 43 is arranged on the stem within the socket. The push button projects through an opening 44 in the' escutcheon plate 45 which is desirably provided with a nger or hand piece 46 located belowV the push;
button so that it may be grasped to supportthe hand manipulating the push button and it also may serve'as a hand piece for lifting the`door.
The body 47 of the keeper 1s angled to embrace the track and has vertical slots 49 therein with which the securing bolts are engaged to support the keeper for verticaladjustment.v The strike face 51 of the keeper is downwardly inclined so that as the door is closed the bolt strikes the face and is gradually swung forwardly,
that is, forwardly relative to the housing until it 1s snapped underv the keeper by means of its b1as1ng Spring 21. The details of mounting the housing are not illustrated but it is commonly mounted by means of screws. The embodiment of the invention illustrated is adapted for mounting as either a right or left hand lock and this is desirable in upwardly acting doors as the lock should be positioned in the most convenient place for the particular installation. The scructure avoids the necessity of making separate right and left hand locks to meet particular conditions. l
l have illustrated and described the invention as applied to upwardly acting sectional doors. It will Ibe understood that while it is particularly desirable for that type of installation, the door structure may be very considerably varied. Thelockl is adapted for varied types of upwardly acting door sections.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed f as new and is desired to be secured by Letters Patent is:

A lock comprising a housing having ybolt openings in opposite sides thereof and havingia bolt supporting bracket therein, 'abolt provided with a pivot'positionable on said bracket to support the bolt in position to project through a selected one of said bolt openings, a spring for biasing the bolt to keeper engaging position operatively associated with the bolt and its pivot for adjustment therevl0 an escutcheon plate having a handpece,a socket mounted'- 4 provided with a pvot adjustably positionable on the housing to support the release lever in coacting relation to the bolt in its adjusted position, an actuating member for said release lever pivotally mounted on said ho-using and provided with means engaging the release lever when it is positioned in either of its mounted positions, means for limiting the swinging movement of said lever actuating member, a push button socket, a push button relciprocable in said socket and provided with a stern projecting into the housing to engagesaid actuating member, and a biasing spring for said push button disposed in said socket.

A-lock comprising a` housing having boltl openings -in opposite sides thereof and having a bolt supporting bracket therein, a bolt provided with a pivot positionable on said bracket to support the bolt in position to pro-ject through a selected one of said bolt openings, a spring for biasing the bolt to keeper engaging position operatively .associated With the bolt and its pivot for adjustment therewith, a bolt release leverdisposed within said housing provided with a pivot adjustably positionable on the housing to support the'release lever in coacting relation to the bolt in its adjusted position, an actuating Vmember for said release lever pivotally mounted on said housing and provided with means engaging the release lever when it is positioned in either of its mounted positions, and means for limiting the swinging movement of lsaid lever actuating member.

A lock comprising a housing having bolt openings ,in opposite sides thereof, a bolt positionable to project through a selected one of said bolt openings, vmeans for pivotally'supporting the bolt in either of its adjusted positionsa spring for biasing the bol-t to keeper engaging position in either of its adjusted positions, a pivotally mounted bolt release lever'adjustably positionable to coact with the bolt in its adjusted position, an actuating member for said release lever pivotally mounted on said housing and. provided with means engaging the release lever when itis positioned in either of its positions, a push button socket, a push button reciproeable in said .socket and provided with a stem projecting into the housing to engage said actuating member, and a biasingl spring for said push button disposed in said socket.
