Description
J. T. POGG. Egg-Carrier.
No. 223,331. Patented Jan. 6,1880.
INVENTOR ATToRNE N PETERS, PNOTO-LITHOGRAPNER. WASMNGTON, D C.
UNITED STATES PATENT ()FFICE.
JASON T. nose, or GARLAND, MAINE.
EGG-CARRIER.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 223,331, dated January 6, 1880.
Application filed June 24, 1879.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JASON T. FOGG, of Garland, in the county of Penobscot, and in the State of Maine, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Egg-Carriers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked th ereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of'my invention consists in the construction and arrangei'nent of a tray for egg-carriers, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention a 'ipertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawings, in which- Figurel is a perspective view of my improved egg'earrier tray. Fig. 2 shows one of the side strips of the tray.
The body of the tray is composed of two series of strips, A A, having slots cut in halfway, and interlocked in the same manner as is usual in a great many egg-carrier trays. After the body or inside of the tray has been thus put togethervthe outside frame is put on,- which is composed of four pieces, B, of the same length as the strips A, and having small slots 1) cut across the center at regular intervals. The corners of this outside frame-that is to say, the ends of the strips B B--are then fastened together with hinges C, of leather or other suitable material, forming folding elastic or flexible corners. Similar but narrower hinges D are then fastened with one end to the outside of the strips B, the other ends of said hinges being passed through the slots b and fastened to the strips A.
To keep the outside strips B more securely in their places, strips F, of leather or other suitable material, are fastened to the corners of the strips A, and are passed on the outside of the strips B, as shown.
The hinges O and pieces D F are fastened in their respective places by means of glue or other adhesive material.
By this construction I gain durability, as there are no exposed corners to break oil, and also cheapness and compactness, as there is a saving on stock and on trays amounting to ten per cent., the ends not running by, as in the usual tray.
Having thus fully described my invention, what 1 claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
I. An egg-carrier tray composed of interlocking strips and four outside strips united at the corners with flexible folding hinges, and all constructed so as to present no projecting ends of the various strips, substantially as set forth.
2. In combination with the two series of interlockin g strips A A, the outside strips, B B, provided with the slots I) I), the flexible folding cornerhinges O, and the pieces D, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
3. The combination of the interlocking strips A A, outside strips, B, flexible hinges C, and the flexible pieces I) F, all constructed and united together substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 6th day of June, 1879.
JASON T. FOGG.
