This invention relates to a new and useful kit for use in polishing shoes, and the primary object of the presentl invention is to provide a device of this kind wherein the elements necessary for polishing shoes are cooperatively arranged and associated in a compact and accessible mannery so that the same are respectively available for ready and convenient use.

A further object of the present invention is to provide a kit of the abo-ve kind which is comparatively simple in construction and eicient in use, and which embodies a polish applicator, a polish spreader, and a polishing buffer so combined and related as to present them for convenient instantaneous selective use.

Other objects of the present invention are to provide a novel arrangement of polish applicator and mounting thereof in a supporting frame constituting the backing for the polish spreading material and bu'ing material of the polish spreader and buffer, the supporting frame includ- 'ing separable sections for facilitating access tov the polish reservoir of the polish applicator and to facilitate renewal of the polish spreading and buing elements of the polish spreader and. the buiier.

With the above and other objects in view, the present invention consists in the novel form, combination and arrangement-of parts hereinafter vmore fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings and claimed.

Referring in detail to the drawings, the present kit includes a hollow supporting frame composed of separable longitudinal half-

sections

5 and 5a formed of sheet metal and of generally channel shape. These sections5 and 5d are separably connected by slidably interfitting them, the side members oi' section 5 being provided along their free edges vwith outwardly directed channels 5 snugly and slidably receiving similar channels 5Z lformed along Athe longitudinal free edges of the section 5a. The section 5a constitutes the back of a buii'ingl device including a pad 6 of sponge rubber or the like and a fabriccovering 'I applied over theintermediate portion of section 5 and extending partly over the sides thereof as shown clearly in several of the views. This covering is turned in at the ends of section 5 as at 8, and such inturned ends are separably connected under tension by means of an elastic strap 9 attached to onev of the ends and provided with a hook I0 engaged with an eye II attached to the other' end. Thus, the covering I is maintained in a taut condition, and it may be readily removed for renewal when necessary.

In a like manner, the section 5a. of the frame constitutes the back of a polish spreading device consisting of a pelt I2 of lamb skin or the like with attached fur, and preferably carried by an inelastic fabric backing. The pelt is arranged to cover the intermediate portion of section 5a and to extend down the sides thereof as clearly shown in lseveral ofthe views, and the ends of its backing are turned in as at I3 and connected under tension bypmeans of an elastic strap I4 attached to one of the ends and provided with a hook I5 engagingan eye I5 attached to the other end. Thus, the Vpolish spreading element is secured in place under tension so as to be maintained in a taut emcient condition and so that the same may be` readily removed for renewal When desired.

v In View of the above, it will be seen that the structure thus far described may be referred to vas, polish spreading and bufling yelements 4each having ya back" consisting of a channel-shaped member with the polish spreading and buffing elements applied to the outside of the intermediate portions thereof, said backs being separably slidably telescoped along their free longitudinal edges. Each of the backs or sections 5 and 5av is provided with a brace rigidly connecting the side members or portions thereof adjacent one end of the same as at I'I, the brace being spaced from the channel-shaped edge lportion and from the intermediate portion of its respective back member or

5 or 5a. Thus, the braces do not interfere with slidable interengagement of the

sections

5 and 5a or the turning of the ends 8 and I3 inwardly for being connected together as described. The braces II naturally prevent spreading of the side members of the sections 5 and 5a. and render the same rigid and durable.

The present kit also includes a polish applicator consisting of a reservoir in the form of a collapsible metal tube of polishing material I8 provided with a dispensing key I9 at its closed end in a conventional or well known manner. This collapsible tube I8 has the usual threaded outlet Aneck 2-0 4which is inserted in a central openingofj ka further fbracing Aplate r2 I connecting `the side members of the frame section 5a at the end opposite that at which the rbraces I1 are arranged. From the above description, it is believed that the construction and manner of use, as Well as the advantages of the present invention, will be readily understood and appreciated by those skilled in the art. It will be seen that the device is extremely simple in construction, compact, durable, and convenient to use. The device pro-` vides all of the elements necessary to polishing shoes in an orderly and readily usable relationship. Also, `the device is designed for economical manufacture and to otherwise meet the requirements for successful commercial use. What I claim as new` is:

1.
