IGNITION DISTRIBUTOR Filed Oct. 28, 1938 Wren/0r:
Patented Oct. 29, 1940 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2,220,003 IGNITION msmmo'roa Application October 28, 1938, Serial No. 237,565 In Germany November 18, 1937 1 Claim.
In order that high frequency oscillations emitted by the ignition installations in motor vehicles shall cause no disturbances in the supply of news by wireless, the ignition distributors pres- 5 ent in the ignition installations are frequently inserted in a metal screening casing.
The screening of ignition distributors according to the present invention is brought about in an especially simple manner by uniting the dis- 10 tributor and the screening casing to form a single constructional part of metal which is sealed by a cover, also of metal.
The present invention is more particularly described with reference to the accompanying drawing which illustrates one form of construction by way of example and in which Figure l is a sectional view, and
Figure 2 is a plan view corresponding thereto.
In the drawing, a is a distributor and screen- 20 ing casing consisting of a die casting part, which is sealed by a cover 17 also made from a die casting. The casing a and cover I: are fastened together by two fastening screws (not shown). The distributor shaft is bedded in the metal casing at the parta. The primary current interrupter d is accommodated in the lower part of the casing a. In addition, it contains a pocket I separated from the rest of the casing part by the wall e, in which pocket the condenser 9 con- 30 nected in parallel to the interrupter d is inserted.
The condenser g is held fast in-its operative position by the strap h, which bears on the insulation of the connection terminal 2' placed upon the condenser. The primary current connection is introduced through the sleeve k, which is pressed into the casing wall and caulked therein, and connected with the connection terminal 1. The upper part of the casing a is filled by the distributor disc, which consists of two parts I and m and which is supported on the rim n provided in the interior of the casing and is protected here against turning. The ducts o serve for the removal of air from the distributor casing. For holding together the parts 1 and m and for holding fast the distributor disc, there is only used the plate spring 12, which is firmly riveted in the cover and which presses on the Fdistributor disc. Through the opening q between the casing a and the cover b, which opening is strengthened by the guide collar s, which is firmly held in place by means of the nut r, the high tension leads are conducted from the distributor to the sparking plugs.
I declare that what I claim is:
Ignition distributor apparatus comprising a distributor and a screening casing formed as a single integral metallic unit having an internal ring, a metallic cover for sealing said unit, a distributor disc adapted to be supported on said internal rim and a spring carried by said metallic cover for holding said distributor disc on said rim.
