LIP AND FACIAL ROUGE COMPACT Filed Aug. 3l, 1958 @WWW Patenteict. 22, 1940 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
My invention relates to a cosmetic compact and more particularly to a small container that may be conveniently carried in a purse or handbag and the principal object of my invention is,
5 to provide a compact having containers for lip rouge and facial rouge, together with a' member provided on its'ends with applicators that are utilized for transferring the rouge from the containers of the compact to the lips and cheeks l of the user.
A further object of my invention is, to provide a compact of the character referred to having .a body, on the ends of which are removably positioned thimble-like caps, one of which contains a l rouge especially applicable for the lips and the other containing facial rouge and a member arranged for longitudinal sliding movement through the body of the device, said member carrying on its ends small swab-like applicators of soft material that may be conveniently used for transferring the rouge from the containers to the lips and face.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, my invention consists in certain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts that will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective View of a compact con- -structed in accordance with my invention.
` Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a vertical longitudinal section taken through the central and one end portion of the compact and showing one of the applicators moved into position where it makes contact with the rouge carried in one of the end caps.
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the central and end portion of the compact with the sliding member moved to its limit of movement in one direction for use in applying rouge to the lips or face.
Referring by numerals to the accompanying drawing which illustrates a preferred embodiment of my invention, I0 designates the main body of the compact which may be formed of any suit.- able material, but preferably of hardened plastic material such as Bakelite, Catalin, Celluloid, or the like. 'I'his body I0 is preferably cylindrical in form and has its end portions reduced in diameter so as to form short cylindricallugs I I.
Formed axially through the body I0 and lugs I I is a bore I2 and formed in the body I0 is a longitudinally disposed slot I3 that communicates with the intermediate portion of the bore I2.
(ci. 132;-79) l Removably positioned on the lugs II that project from the ends of the body I0 are thimblelike caps Il, each of which contains a body of rouge R.' One of these bodies' of rouge is of the particular type applicable 'for use on the lips while 5 the other body is of the type particularly applicable for use on the cheeks.
Arranged to slide freely through the bore I2 is a pencil-like member I5 and seated in the central portion thereof is the threaded end of a shank I6 10 that projects through slot I3 and the outer end of said `shank carrying a button-like head I1.
The ends of sliding member I5 are recessed as designated by I8, said recesses providing pockets for the reception of short stems such as I9 that 15 project from applicators 20. These applicators and their stems may be formed of any soft flexible material, such as cotton, wool, or any material that will function as a swab for applying the rouge to the lips or face. A 20 In some instances it may be found desirable to form the applicator from chamois skin or the like, with a filling of soft flexible material.
I prefer to construct the applicator that is used for applying the facial rouge in the form of a 25 flattened sphere and slightly larger in diameter than the applicator that is utilized for applying rouge to the lips.
The lip rouge applicator may be of any desired shape, although as illustrated in Fig. 2 I 30 prefer to form said applicator substantially conical in shape in order to give bestresults in use.
In the use of my improved compact, the button Il is engaged by the thumb or finger and pushed in one direction or the other so as to correspond- 35 ingly move member I5 and, such action brings one of the applicators into contact with the body of rouge contained in one of the caps. When one of the applicators is thus brought into contact with the corresponding one of the bodies of 40 rouge, the cap Il containing said rouge is rotated ilrst in one direction and then in the other so as to deposit a small amount of rouge on the surface ofthe applicator.
The cap containing the rouge is now removed 4K5l from body III and by means of pressure on button I'I, the member I5 is moved outward to its limit of movement so that the rouge-carrying applicator will be projected into position where it may be conveniently manipulated in applying the 50 rouge to the lips or face.
The rouge 'used in the compact may be produced in small plug-like bodies and furnished to the purchasers of theV compacts, thereby enabling said bodies of rouge to be used as reiills to replace 55 the bodies that have been exhausted or used up as a result of being transferred from `the end caps to the lips and face.
If desired, one o! the caps may contain a rouge applicable for use on both the lipsand face and the other capmay contain a cosmetic applicable for use on the eyebrows after the manner of the generally used eyebrow pencil.
Thus it will be seen that I have provided a lip and facial rouge compact that is relatively simple in construction, inexpensive of manufacture', and very effective in performing the functions for which it is intended.
It will be understood that minor changes in the size, form and construction of the various parts of my improved lip and facial rouge compact, may be made and substituted for those herein shown and described, Without departing from the spirit of my invention, the scope of which is set forth in the appended claim.
I claim as my invention:
In a compact. a body, rouge containing caps removablyl positioned on the ends of said body. a member arranged to slide lengthwise through said body, applicators carried by the ends of said sliding member, which applicators are adapted to make contact with the rouge contained in said caps, one of which applicators is provided with a rounded outer face, the other applicator being substantially conical in shape. said body being provided with a longitudinally disposed slot and a stud seated in the intermediate portion of said applicator carrying member, which stud projects through said slot to provide means whereby said applicator carrying member may be moved in either direction to bring one of the applicators into contact with the rouge in the corresponding cap.
