The object of the invention is to provide an g improved garment construction wherein the'coat has a skirt. portion which extends beyond the terminal portion of the slide fastener andv in which the slide fastener ends can be operated easily by the simple andnatural operation of spreading apart the coat opening at the point where the partsof the divisible end connection are located.

According to my invention I provide gripping members-which are free at both sides and bottom, and wherein the terminal portions of the fastener stringere are attached to the adjacent edges of such gripping members rather than directly to the edges oi' the coat. In this manner, the coat may be spread apart sideways,

'8, facilitating access to the lower end of the fastener.

The particular Jacket shown in Fig. l has opposite front body portions I, 1 with a central opening I, a collar l, sleeves I0. and a skirt II,

n' which extends a considerable distance below the belt I2. The user of the garment will grasp the tergg mlnal portions of the fastener or the gripping portions adjacent thereto in the, manner shown in Fig. 3 and because'these ends of thel fastener stringere are free at opposite sides and also at the bottom, he can bend them inwardly toward each other and twist the same at an angle as shown plainly in- Fig. 3. At the same time the lower corners 3| of the coat can be folded sideways out of the way to provide easy access to the parts of the end connection. The grip- 40 ping members will not in every instance be necessary but will facilitate handling of the end portions of the `fastener and tend to' hold them in position during wearing of the garment. At the same time, since they are free at opposite sides and atthe bottom, being attached only along their upper edge or by merely a continuation of the facing members, they can be easily twisted inwardly and placed at the desired angle.

, While I have shown and described in this application one embodiment which my invention may assume in practice. it will be understood thatl this embodiment is for the purposes of illustration and description, and that various other gg forms may be devised within the scope of my invention as set forth in the appended claims What I claim as my invention is:

1. In a coat-like garment having a full length opening, facing members attached to the under side ofthe front body portions of the garment on opposite sides of the opening, a slide fastener for closing the opening having stringers mounted between said facing members and said body portions whereby the edges of the body portion come together in abutting relation and conceal the slide fastener, the lower ends of the facing portions being tapered downwardly and inwardly and left free fromthe body portions and the lower end of the slide fastener being attached only to said free ends, component parts of a divisibleend connection on the lower ends of said stringers, and supplemental facing members extending from the lines where said first facing members are left unattached downwardly to the lower edge of the garment.

In a coat-like garment having a full length opening, a slide fastener having stringers on opposite sides of the opening for fastening the coat together, said fastener extending from a point adjacent the collar down to at least the waistline of the garment and terminating a substantial distance above the bottom of the garment, said stringers carrying component parts of a divisible end connection at their bottom ends, facings extending at each side of said opening and projecting downwardly below the waistline of said garment to form gripping members attached to the garment on opposite sides of aangaan the opening adjacent the lower terminal portions of said fastener stringers and being freeat both sides and the bottom, the lower terminal portions of the fastener stringers being attached to adjacent edges of said gripping members whereby the wearer can easily grasp the gripping members to engage or disengage the parts of said divisible end connection.

3. In a coat-like garment having a full length opening, a slide fastener having stringers on opposite sides of the openings for fastening the coat together, said fastener extending from a point adjacent the collar down to at least the waistline of the garment and terminating a substantial distance above the bottom of the garment, said stringers carrying component parts of a divisible ,end connection at their bottom ends, gripping members attached to the garment on opposite sides of the opening adjacent the lower terminal portions of said fastener stringers and being free at both sides and the bottom, the gripping members being formed from the end portion of the facing strips on opposite sides of the garment opening, the lower terminal portions of the fastener stringere being attached to adjacent edges of said gripping members whereby the wearer can easily grasp the gripping members to engage or disengage the parts of said divisible end connection and the gripping members being tapered downwardly and inwardly for forming a substantially triangular manually engageable tab when attached by said fastener.
