Description

Aug. 13, 1940. E. LINDI FACE LIFTING DEVICE Filed June 28, 1938 INVENTOR 611ml 2:: inc/L ATTORfiE Patented Aug. 13, 1940 ,UNITED STATES 'ATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to a face lifting device which assists .in restoring and reviving sagging muscles of the face, thereby substantially eradieating wrinkles of the face.
, and holding these muscles in place for regular periods of time, these sagging muscles are revived and the wrinkles caused to disappear. Thus the face is helped to retain its youthful contours. In the past, however, these face lifting devices have usually been cumbersome and unattractive when in place, and in certain cases, actually painful to wear and to remove. In many cases they were of very doubtful aid.
The principal object of this invention is to provide an attractive and effective face lifting deyice for the purpose of holding the muscles of the face in their proper places so that when it is removed, wrinkles are substantially permanently eliminated and the face takes on a more youthful .and pleasing appearance.
Another object of the invention is to provide a face lifting device which is compact, easy to apply, simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture and which will exert a continuous pull on the muscles during the entire period of application.
A further object of the invention is to provide a face lifting device which can at the same time serve as a net for holding the hair in place.
Still another object of the invention is to provide a face lifting device which, when in place, does not interfere in any way with speaking, breathing, etc., and which is adjustable to varying head sizes.
Further objects of the invention will be apparent from the following description of the preferred form of embodiment of the invention taken in connection with the attached drawing, in which:
Figures 1, 2 and 3 are front, rear and side views respectively of a head with the face lifting device properly positioned thereon; and
Figure 4 is a detailed plan view of the face lifting device.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the invention comprises a face lifting device for removing wrinkles having a face lifting element I!) which is made of any suitable, durable, non-elastic and attractive material such as satin. This face lifting element It] is cut to conform to the forehead, being slightly pointed at l2 to fit between the eyes, and is concavely curved over the eyebrows and extends down the sides of the face to a point indicated at M adjacent the temples. The upper slightly curved edge of the face lifting element l substantially follows the hair line across the forehead and down the sides of the face tothe point M. The lower edge may be finished in any convenient manner as by picoting, hemming, etc., and will maintain its shape and will not stretch.
The face lifting element i0 is made operative as by the substantially rectangular body portion l6 which conforms to the contours of the head in a manner to be set forth later. This body portion I6 is made preferably of net, but any other convenient fabric which is light in weight and durable may be used. The edges of the body portion l6 may be finished in any convenient manner such as hemming.
The body portion I6 is fastened to the face lifting portion In along the upper edge and this attachment may be reinforced by means of a tape I8. The tape ends I850 and lab are of suitable length forencircling the head and are tied in the back. This gives a rearward pull on the face lifting portion.
Other tapes 20a and 2012 are also secured to the face lifting portion ID at the extreme edges and are of suitable length for tying on the top of or behind the head. The combination of the tape ends [8a, [8b, 20a and 20b thus securely fasten the face lifting portion ID to the forehead and from temple to temple.
The body portion I6 is provided with main diagonal elastic bands 22a and 2211 which extend from points on the face lifting element [0 which are approximately over the outer corners of the eyes to a point substantially on top of the head. A hook 24a and eye 24b are provided on the elastic bands 22a and 22b respectively which when fastened on top of the head assure the fit of the net to the contours of the head. These bands exert an upward pulling force on the cheek muscles.
A secondary non-elastic tape 26 is also provided on the body portion l6, and passes from a point on the face lifting element Ill nearer the outer edge thereof than the elastic band 22a and across the head below the crown to a point near the other edge of the face lifting element also nearer the outer edge than the attached elastic band 22b. The tape 26, also being secured to the body portion I6, assures a fit of the body portion to the contours of the head.
The central elastic band 28 is attached to the top of the face lifting element II] at its center and extends straight back over the wearer's head and ends at a point below the level of the ears. This band 28 terminates in a hook 30 which can be hooked into the tied bands l8a and IBZ) to exert a direct rearward pull on the face lifting portion l0.
Preferably the band 28 is secured to the body portion 16 as by sewing to the net material from the face lifting portion I0 back to the tape 26. This band 28 is then loose of the net body portion to the point 29 with the net loosely gathered in this region. Beyond the point 29, the band 28 is loose so that over the crown of the head, the body portion 16 is substantially formed to the head and rearward. This cap-like portion formed by the elastic bands 22a and 22b, and the nonelastic tape 26, may be pulled rearward to exert a uniform pull on the upper edges of the face lifting portion ID.
When the improved device is in use, the face lifting portion if is preferably provided with a suitable adhesive which may be composed of isinglass, glycerine and alcohol. This adhesive not only is not injurious to delicate skins, but is water soluble and can thus be easily and painlessly removed. One application of the adhesive to the face lifting element It is sufficient for as many as five treatment periods without being renewed, it being necessary only to moisten the face lifting element Hi to make it adhere. Adhesive materially aids the face lifting element in accomplishing its purpose as it uniformly distributes the pull over the entire forehead and thus to the muscles of the cheeks, etc.
After the face lifting element i0 is firmly in place, the tapes 58a and l8b are drawn beneath the ears and tied in a how 32 at the back of the head as shown in Figure 2. The end of the elastic band 28 is then stretched down the back of the head and fastened to the bow 32 by means of the hook 3B. This pulling force exerted by the combination of the tapes [8a and I8!) and the elastic band 28 serves to pull back and raise respectively the vital points, namely forehead and cheek muscles, with equalized force. At the same time, the face lifting element It, being held in firm position by the adhesive, prevents any wrinkles in the forehead while the device is being worn and after it is removed.
The tapes 20a and 202) are now drawn to the top of the head gathering up the loose folds of the net, and tied in a bow 34 on top of the head, further serving to pull up the cheek muscles to prevent sagging. During application, the net body portion l6 also serves as a hair net and by providing a net body portion, there is no discomfort from perspiring.
The important facial muscles, namely of the cheek and forehead are held firmly in elevated position thereby eliminating wrinkles from the forehead and around the eyes for a longer period of time than has heretofore been possible. The face lifting device does not detract materially from the appearance of the wearer, and can be worn without discomfort even while sleeping.
The elastic cap portion formed by the bands and tapes is very helpful in distributing the desired pulling force where desired. It is of course to be understood that an elastic or fabric-elastic portion similarly joined to the face lifting portion could be substituted, it being important that the rearward forces act in a face lifting manner on the front portion. The net body portion is especially effective, however, in this respect.
Although I have described a preferred form of embodiment of my invention, it will be apparent that modifications may be made thereto and it is desired that a broad interpretation be given within the scope and spirit of the disclosure herein and of the claim attached hereinafter.
I claim:
A wrinkle eliminating and face muscle reviving device which comprises a relatively flexible and non-elastic portion conforming to the forehead and extending to points adjacent the temples, the upper edge being curved and following the hair line, a body portion attached to the upper curved edge and extending rearwardly over the hair, substantially non-elastic tapes extending from the terminal ends of the joint between the upper curved edge of the forehead portion with the body portion, such tapes being of such length that they may be joined behind the head to give a rearward pull on the forehead portion, a second set of tapes extending from the terminal ends of the joint between the upper curved edge of the forehead portion with the body portion, said second set of tapes being of such length that they may be tied on the top of the head, a plurality of rearwardly extending elastic tapes secured respectively at the center and near the ends of the forehead portion, means to secure the other ends of the elastic tapes together, and means to effect a resilient pull on said elastic tapes, tending to raise said forehead portion, said tapes moulding the body portion to the head.
