Our invention relates to a device for treatment of infiammations, such as sinus inflammations. An object of the invention is to provide a device for carrying cooling means for cooling definite areas on the head of the user.
A further object of the invention is to provide a harness member which is simple in construction, easily put in place, and will hold the cooling means in a definite fixed relationship during use.
Yet another object of the invention is to provide containers for cooling means which are eicient and easy to fill with cooling medium, will not leak, and which can be easily detached from the supporting harness.
With these and other objects in View, which may be incident to our improvements, the invention consists in the parts and combinations to be hereinafter set forth and claimed, with the understanding that the several necessary elements comprising our invention may be Varied in construction, proportions and arrangements, without departing from the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
In order to make our invention more clearly understood, we have shown in the accompanying' drawings means for carrying the same into practical eifect without limiting the improvements in their useful applications to the particular constructions, which for the purpose of explanation, have been made the subject of illustration.

open or leno weave fabric so that the fabric will not insulate the cooling medium in the containers which` areattached thereto. At the edges 2 and along the strengthened portions 3 the fabric is tightlywoven to give it strength. Along the tightly woven portions 3 are located grommets 4, to which may be attached containers for cooling means. AThe headband I terminates in strengthened portions 5 to whichare stitched at Ii elastic members 'I for holding' the headband I tightly on the head.
The strengthened portions 5 are strengthened by a double line, (if-stitching at 8. Adapted to tover the top `of the head is a support band 9 having tightly woven edges II) and strengthened portions II which carry attaching grommets I2;
The back end' of the support band 9 has a strengthened portion I3 reenforced by a double line of stitching I4. To the strengthened portion I3 are stitched elastic inserts'I which are also Stitched at their lower ends to the strengthened portions 5 of the lheadband I.
Adapted to be attached at the grommets 4 and I2 of the headharness arey container elements I6. These container elements I6 are made of molded rubber with attaching tabs I'I formed of the material from'which the containers are made. Eyelets I8 are molded inv the attaching tabs I'I'.
I'he molded rubber containers IS are provided with foldable tops, indicated generally by the numeral I9, which are creased as indicated at 20 to permit the foldab-le top to fold in on itself on the lines of creasing, as indicated Ain Figure 3. One element 2l of asnap fastener is attached to the upper portion of the foldable top I9, which cooperates'with another element 22 of the snap fastener which is located near the bottom portion of the foldable top member. As indicated in Figure 4 when the snap fastener elementv 2| is attached to snap fastener element 22, the top I9 presents a tightly folded condition which` makes the container I6 waterproof so that any ice cubes, or other cooling medium, which may be placed in the container I6, upon melting, will not discharge liquid on the outside of the container I6. l l
In use, the harness shown in Figure l is placed over the head of the user, as illustrated in Figure 5, and the containers I6.4 whichmay be filled with cooling medium such as an ice cube, are held in place by means of cords 23 which are passed through the eyelets I8 in the holding tabs I 'I, and then through the grommets 4 shown in the head harness.- As illustrated in Figure 5, one or more containers I6 can be attachedto the top of the head through the cords 23. Two containers I6 can be attached, if desired, on either side of the forehead above the eyes, though in Figure 5 but one such container is shown in place, and other containers I6 can be suspended below the eyes of the sufferer. A tying cord 24 can be run through the lower holding tabs of the container I6 positioned below the eyes to hold these containers I6 tightly pressed against the face over the sinus cavities locatedbelow the eyes of the user.
In Figure 6 we have shown a different type of harness which we have indicated generally by the numeral 50. This comprises a headband 5I and a support 52. The headband 5I is formed with apertures 53 located above the eyes of the user so that the containers will be directly in contact with the head of the user Without the interposition of the fabric material from which the headband is made. Likewise the support band 52 is provided with an aperture 54 for the same purpose.
In the form of device shown in Figure 6 the headband 5I is somewhat shorter than the headband I of the form shown in Figure 1. In Figure 6 the headband is shown tapered at its ends 55 and attached to elastic elements 56 which are attached to a holding strip 511 at the back. Also attached to this holding strip 51 are elastic members 58 which are attached to a holding strip 59 carried by side strips 60 formed on thesupporting band 52.
In Figure '7 we have shown a spectacle type of holding member which comprises a spectacle frame 'I0 having ear members 1I which are adapted to fit over the ears, anda bridge member 'I2 which is adapted to fit over the nose of the user. Usual nose pads 13 are formed on the bridge piece 12, these nose pads 'I3 operating as similar pads operate in the usual type of spectacle. In place of the usual lenses carried by spectacles, we have shown attaching means on the spectacle frame, as indicated at 14. These attaching means are formed` by bending the wire of the spectacle frame upon itself to form upper loops 15. The holding tabs are threaded on the spectacle frame from the ear pieces 1I. The lower holding tabs of the 1 containers I6 are threaded on to supports 'I6 formed at the lower part of the attachment means 14. A support 'I1 is formed on each attaching means which ts under the lower wall of each of the containers I6.
Turning to the form of device shown in Figures 8 and 9, we have shown a moldable container, one of whose walls is of a shape to fit the bridge-of the nose of the user. This nose piece is indi cated generally by the numeral 80. The wall is indicated by the numeral 8I.
Please note that the wall 8| is formed with a wall 82 which fits over the bridge of the nose of the user. Crushed ice 83, for instance, may be inserted in the nose piece, which is provided with the usual foldable top 84. Holding tabs 85 are formed at the top, and holding tabs 86 are formed at the bottom. Through holding tabs 85 the device may be attached to the headband of the head harness, and a holding string 81 may be attached to the holding tabs 86 to hold the nose piece firmly against the face of the user.
While we have shown and described the preferred embodiment of our invention, we Wish it to be understood that we do not confine ourselves to the precise details of construction herein set forth by way of illustration, as it is apparent that many changes and variations may be made therein, by those skilled in the art, Without departing from the spirit of the invention, or exceeding the scope of the appended claims.
We claim:
1. In a device for treating sinus infections and other inflammations of the head, a harness for supporting units, containing a cooling medium, in place against the areas to be treated on the head of a patient, comprising an open weave strip adapted to fit around the forehead and sides of the head of the user, said open weave strip being provided with tightly woven laterally extending borders and tightly woven transverse panels which intersect said tightly woven borders, an elastic band joining the free ends of the strip, a supporting str-ip of open weave joined to the middleof the rst mentioned strip, said supporting strip being also provided with tightly woven borders and tightly Woven intersecting transverse panels, elastic strips joining the other extremity of the said supporting strip to the rst mentioned strip, said supporting strip being adapted to fit over the top of the wearers head from the front towards the back, and means attached to both the rst mentioned. strip and the supporting strip at the points of intersection of the tightly Woven portions to attach the said units to the said strips in such a manner that the units are separated from the head of the patient by the open Weave portion of the harness.
2. In a device for treating sinus infections and other inflammations of the head, a harness for supporting units, containing a cooling medium, in placeagainst the head, one of said units being positioned on the top ofthe head of the patient, one on each side of the forehead above the eyes, and one on each side of the nose below the eyes, said last mentioned containers being suspended from the containers positioned on the forehead by flexible means, comprising an open weave strip adapted to t around the forehead and sides of the head of the user, said open Weave strip being provided with tightly woven laterally extending borders and tightly Woven transverse panels which intersect said tightly woven borders, an elastic band joining the free ends of the strip, a supporting strip of open Weave joined to the middle of the first mentioned strip, said supporting strip being also provided with tightly woven borders and tightly woven intersecting transverse panels, elastic strips joining the other extremity of the said supporting strip to the first mentioned strip, said supporting strip being adapted to fit over theftop of the Wearers head from the front towards-the back, and means attached to both the first mentioned strip and the supporting strip atfthepoints of intersection of the tightly woven portions to attach the said units to the said strips in such a manner that the units attached directly to the strips are separated from the head of the patient by the open weave portions of the harness.
3. In a device for treating sinus infections and other inflammationsof the head, a harness for supporting units containing a cooling medium in place against the head, one of said units being positioned on the top of the head of the patient, one on each side of the forehead above the eyes, and one on each side of the nose below the eyes, said last mentioned containers being suspended from the containers positioned on the forehead by flexible means, comprising an open weave strip adapted to fit around the forehead and sides of the head of the user, said open weave strip being provided With tightly Woven laterally extending borders and tightly Woven transverse panels which intersect said tightly woven borders, an elastic band joining the free ends of the strip, a supporting strip of open Weave joined at the middle of the rst mentioned strip, said supporting strip being also provided with tightly Woven borders and tightly Woven intersecting transverse panels, elastic strips joining the other extremity of the said supporting strip to the rst mentioned strip, said supporting strip being adapted to lt over the top of the Wearers head from the front towards the back, and means attached to both the rst mentioned strip and the supportingr strip at the points of intersection of the tightly Woven portions to attach the said units to the said strips in such a manner that the units attached directly to the strips are separated from the head of the patient by the open weave portions of the harness, said units comprising a hollow, molded, rectangular shaped, rubber member having attachable tabs, a foldable top, and means attached to the top to secure it when in folded position to prevent leakage of the contents.
