1 Claim.
The invention relates to apparatus for supporting the supply conductor of a reciprocating electric motor.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple and effective arrangement for carrying an extensible electric cord for-supplying current to a reciprocating electric motor. More particularly, the present invention provides a simple and effective arrangement for carrying a cord in the form of a series of loops slidable along a xed support from a contracted to an extended position.
The invention further consists in the several features hereinafter set forth and more particularly dened by claim at the conclusion hereof.
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a plan view of the device embodying the invention, parts of the apparatus being broken away and the cord being shown in extended position;
Fig. 2 is a side elevation View of the device embodying the invention, the cord being shown in contracted position;
Fig. 3 is a detailed perspective View of a part of the cord support.
In the drawings, the numeral 5 designates an electric motor Which is mounted on a carriage 6 v provided with wheels 'l running in channel guides or rails 8. The carriage 6 may be reciprocated or moved back and forth along the rails 8 by means driven from the motor 5, and in the present instance I have used the drive mechanism more particularly shown in detail in the prior U. S. Patent No.` 2,111,247,` to Victor Malueg, dated March 15, 1938, wherein the motor 5 has its drive shaft connected by a pulley 9 and belt I0 with a pulley II on a shaft I2 which is connected through suitable mechanism (not shown), with a shaft having a pair of drums |3`mounted thereon and adapted to be selectively clutched thereto, each drum having a cord I4 secured thereto at one end and anchored at-its other end to one end of the track frame I5. Thus when one of the drums is driven, one of the cords is wound up and the carriage is pulled in one direction along the track, and then when the other drum is driven, the other cord is Wound upfand the carriage is pulled in the opposite direction along the track.
The motor 5 runs continuously, and the direction of travel of the carriage is reversed throughl mechanism` controlling the reversal ofl the clutches as more particularly shown and described in said patent. It is to be noted that in the present instance the shaft I6 for the drums I3 has an agitator mounted thereon which is always rotated in the same direction and is arranged to work in a tank I8. The motor is fed withcurrent from a source of supply'through a flexible cord conductor I9, one kend of which is shown associated with a current control switch Il and the other with the terminals of the motor. This cord |9 is long enough so that in one position of the carriage, said cord maybe arranged in several coils 2|. Each of the coils 2| l0 is supportedfrom a fixedv support or rod 22 by a bendable metal member 23' which is provided with a tubular portion 24 slidably mounted on the rod 22 and a split tubular portion 25 in which the conductor I9 is mounted.' The sidesof thelv tubular portion 25 may be spread or bent out to receive the conductor I9 and then bent back to closed position. The portion 25 is disposed at a slight angle to the part 24 so as to start the coiling of the conductor in the proper direction. With the above arrangement when the carriage t is at one end ofthe frame |5,'the` members 23 are arranged in abutting relation.` and` theloops or coils 2| are in their full open position. Then as the motor 5 moves the carriage l `25 l I desire `it to be understood that. this inven- 35 tion is not y,to be limited to any particular form or arrangement of parts except in so far as such limitations are included in the claim.` f y What I claim as my invention isf" In a device having a reciprocating carriage and 40 an electric motor mounted on said carriage for moving` the same, means for furnishing vcurrent to saidmotor comprising a-flexible cord conductor connected at 'one end tosaid motor and hav-f ing its other end fixed, a-rod extending parallel to 45 the path of movement of said carriage, a plurality of carriers, each of said carriers having atubular portion slidably mounted on said rod and a tubular split portion disposed at an angle to said first named portion and receiving and clamping 50 a portion of said conductor to said carrier, said. conductor being looped between adjoining carriers.
